2013 Ford Escape Right Side Top View 623X389

The Ford Escape and Honda CR-V usually duke it out in monthly sales for the compact crossover segment, but as the Escape took the lead with 24,110 units last month, that left the Honda CR-V and Chevrolet Equinox battling for second, and it was a close race.  The bowtie branded CUV fell behind its top Japanese competitor by only 19 units.

With 20,668 units sold in February, the CR-V barely took the runner-up position while the Equinox settled for third with 20,649 units. While the top three were neck and neck, the Toyota RAV4 landed in the fourth spot with 13,329 examples sold, which is where the CUV has remained comfortable for several months, way ahead of the 9964 Nissan Rogues that were sold. The GMC Terrain trailed the Japanese CUV with 9802 units, however, when combined with its platform-mate, the Equinox and Terrain take all of February by a huge margin. Chrysler’s Jeep Patriot swooped in on the seventh position with 6329 sales, bumping the Subaru Forester (5529 units) down to eighth place, though the Subaru could swap once again after sales of the new CUV gain momentum. The Mazda CX-5 stays in ninth with 5451 CUVs sold, while yet another in the five-pointed-star family steals the 10th spot away from the Hyundai Tucson (3444 units) with 3776 Jeep Compasses accounted for.
