'96 Plymouth Voyager Van AC belt broke. Garage is saying $700 to fix. Is there any way to bypass unit altogether?

I dont think there is anyway by which you can by pass the entire unit and still have the system working as the air conditioner belt is the one that the compressor of the AC and it necessary for its proper functioning.
