Is A Mustang A True Mustang Without A V8 Engine?

There are new emission standards that are on the rise that are forcing all automakers to be more fuel efficient and less emissions on the air. With this said a lot of people say that the end of supercars and muscle cars is soon. Well that may be there is an idea that has also hit the market, replacing V8 engines with hybrid engines, V6 Engines, etc. Now I ask you here today, is this a good idea?

Ford recently came out with the EcoBoost engine, an engine that has proven it's power as it gives the results of or better than a V8 engine in power and fuel efficiency. However, people don't want to lose the V8 engine, specially that thunderous roar.

So for all you mustang fans out there, like myself, do you believe a Mustang can be a true Mustang with an EcoBoost engine?? Should we just get rid of the V8 engine and stay more fuel efficient? Is having a V6 engine with a microphone imitating the V8 sound good enough for enthusiast? You tell me.

P.S. I for one am against removing V8 engines. I own a 2008 Mustang GT Convertible and am very happy with my Mustang. I could not imagine driving a V6 mustang instead.

A Mustang should first overcome the massive invasion of the Miata before it begins talking about V-8 power, the last thing it needs. When it was created out of the Falcon frame and six cylinder it made sense. Then it got involved in the muscle car fad. Thirty cent gas made that reasonable. Nine times the old gas price moves this into the ridiculous unless you're under 25.
Put a Volkswagen Diesel in the Mustang.Looks are everything to older, car buying men and women.

Well the V8 engine, just like everything else in this world, is an upgrade from the V6 engine. Time changes and so does the technology. As for Miata trying to take over, well that's just it...it's trying. I seriously doubt that the Mustang will be evaporated by the Miata. A diesel in a Mustang....nah.

HAHAHA....I just saw this threat in Motor Trens. Anywho as I stated over there....removing the V8 is like removing the title "Muscle Car" away from the Mustang.

It doesn't bother me if a Stang has a V6 under the hood.  There's thousands if not millions roaming around the streets right now, and I don't see anybody coming up to them and saying "that's not a real Stang."  The 2010 V6 Stang is pumping out 210 ponies anyhow, that's a lot better than a 1978 V8 Stang with just 139 ponies under the hood

Well true but the Mustang is suppose to represent power. A V6 engine isn't excatly full of power. I think this is one of the main factors of why people would always walk towards a V8 engine compared to a V6.

Really then, "brappa-brappa-brappa" is more important to you than more power from less weight and better efficiency?  Have you gone mad?

What are you talking about? The V6 weighs less and is more fuel efficient but it's not more powerful than a V8 engine. The only V6 that would do this would be an EcoBoost engine but you will still lose the roar of the mighty V8.

What the Stang is really suppose to represent is an affordable, fun car.  If it had to rely solely on power to survive it should have died back in the 70's when many of the muscle cars did.  But it didn't cuz the Stang is about more than just muscle. It appears to have a pretty good sized female following too.  And many of those muchachas don't give a blank if a V8 is stuffed under the hood or not.  These girls drive it for the image it represents since day one.  They can't do that with a Civic, Cobalt, Altima, or even a PT Cruiser.  I won't be the least bit surprised once again if FoMoCo rides the storm out once again since cars such as the Camaro, Challenger and even Hyundai Genesis have popped back up to challenge the Stang.  FoMoCo has done a nice job of providing buyers choices too, from the V6 Stang to the rock crushing 500HP Shelby Stang.

While I agree with what you have stated, there are also enthusiast out there that worship the Mustang because of its power. Yes the V6 is affordable to most and the fact that it comes in Convertible mode, unlike the competition, gives it an edge. At the same time though there are some gear heads out there that wouldn't be caught dead driving a V6. They want performance, comfort, and horsepower, something the V6 doesn't provide enough of.

In my opinion, a fierce Mustang needs a V-8 to show off what Ford engineers can come up with.
Why is it then that 6 cylinders work for Porsches/ 370Zs and Genesis coupes?  Its because their V6 are high tech and has similar or more horsepower than the Mustang GT.   Ford needs to up the ante sooner with a good V-6 which is why only the V-8 is the way to go right now.

Well I do agree that the V8 should do a little more. As for te V6 engine in the porsche and what not, well one thing that the Mustang has over all of them is weight!! The weight is definitely a factor in this case as porsches/370z could outperform the muscle car in turns left and right, given them the advantage.
