This is one of my pet automotive subjects. Imagine auto makers not advertising, either in print or on TV, for 90 days. How much money, probably billiuons, would be saved? If you're going to buy a car you've probably done your homework on the Web or are simply buying a newer version of your present favorite. Maybe the automakers could knock off a few thousand from their stickers and more of us would start buying again. Toyota pretty much took this idea when the Scion was introduced. Toyota decidied to show the car at rallies and other in-person events. Design your own Scion on-line. No actual advertising amd we all know how popular the Scion is. I'd be interested to hear from others out there, especially people directly involved with advertising.

Really? No actual advertising? I certainly remember a few Scion spots that ran both on TV and during "previews" at movie theaters. Customers may have been forced to hop onto the website to learn more (barely any substantial info was presented), but I'd still consider those to be ads.

I don't see this working. People have reason enough to stay away from the showrooms. Those who need cars will show up.
But, will prices come down enough to lure in the non-desperate for a new car? Probably not. And, without the need, out of site, out of mind will take hold. There would be fewer sales overall.
My $0.02.
