The speedometer on my 1998 RL will randomly jump up about 20 to 30 mph beyond actual speed. It can happen while idling or at any range of speed. It ultimately returns to actual mph but can run incorrectly for the entire trip. The dealer looked at it several times, tried a few things but says the only fix is a brand new speedometer at over $1,000.00. I need to fix before allowing my teenager to drive. Any suggestions? Thanks
