Several news outlets are reporting that Geely Automotive of China has expressed interest in buying Volvo from Ford. What are your feelings about Chinese ownership of this Swedish icon?  

I've read those reports are false, but we won't know for sure until the real buyer for Volvo puts down a deposit.

As long as Volvo products are true to the brand's identity, I don't think it matters who owns the company or where the headquarters is located. But I do wonder if a Chinese Volvo would be as safe...  

Phil, I share your concerns about quality control under Chinese ownership. I don't know, maybe I'm just being prejudiced, but in general, it seems the Chinese are so focused on quantity over quality, that sometimes quality takes a back seat.  

I doubt the Chinese will end up with Volvo, Volvo AB (trucks, heavy equipment) has the rights over what happens to the name.
Remember, Volvo's core values are safety,quality,and environment...ALL OF WHICH ARE ABSENT FROM EVERY CAR MADE IN CHINA!!!!!!!!  

I have owned a Volvo for the past 21 years.  Each car has been a reliable, safe, well engineered vehicle.  This will all be destroyed by Chinese ownership.  The core values of the Chinese dictatorship are the mirror opposites of the existing Volvo philosophy.  If Volvo goes to the Chinese, there will no longer be a Volvo in my garage.

Sorry to say but i believe the quality of a Volvo would suffer if this is the case.
