Many are hailing the new V8 option in the Chevy Colorado and GMC Canyon as a breakthrough in the midsize truck market. However, the Dodge Dakota has offered a V8 option for more than 10 years.
Others say the Colorado/Canyons are also-rans in the midsize market, and the V8 option is just an attempt by GM to raise interest in these dated and out-classed trucks. What's your take? Does the V8 catapult the General's twins to the head of the class, or do they remain mediocre trucks, now with a lot of power?

The Dakota, even with a V8, is far from best in class.
The V8 doesn't fix any of the problems with the Canyon/Colorado platform, but it does make the truck more fun.
The new Suzuki Equator (a rebadged Nissan Frontier) actually may be the truck I like the best in that segment.
