GM-Chrysler Merger

What does everyone think of the idea of a GM-Chrysler merger?

First there were the rumors in November about the two in private talks, and now it's been suggested in the hearings going on this week by lawmakers.

I'm not seeing how this will help anybody.  Yes, I know it would cut costs - but what about the supplier base disaster they're citing as a reason for avoiding collapse?  Rick, Alan and Bob have said if any ONE of the automakers fails, the supplier base will be devastated.  As far as the supplier base is concerned, how is a GM-Chrysler merger different than one of them failing?

Undoubtedly, if they merge there will be some massive cuts to Chrysler's lineup.  Off the top of my head, I can't think of a single vehicle GM wouldn't kill besides the Chrysler Town & Country, Jeep Grand Cherokee, and Jeep Wrangler.  Isn't that paramount to Chrysler failing in the supplier's eyes?
