You can sit in the chair and 50% of time it will register or maybe not. Took into the the dealer and sensor was replaced.

Has that corrected the problem? Sounds like an issue limited to one car and not the whole batch.

Our long-term BMW 135i had a similar problem. While driving down the highway I noticed the airbag off light illuminated despite the fact that my wife was sitting in the passenger seat and buckled up. I cycled the ignition and all was fine. The dealer could find no fault codes or problems. The issue has not come back.
It is a bit scary...
