So, would you actually pay extra for a dual-clutch tranny on cars like a VW GTI, 911, M3, 2009 335i, etc?

Can a car guy really get away with buying this type of gearbox?

I certainly would in a VW. I'm not sure about BMW or Porsche since I haven't driven their new cars with a DSG-style transmission. I live in the real world and deal with stop-and-go traffic and congested roads. It just makes life easier to commute in a DSG car than a real manual.

You can't replace a proper manual for a weekend toy, but if you only have room for one car in your life, the DSG isn't a bad choice.
