I am surprised not to see more discussion on this as I felt like it hit pretty loudly in the regular news world, but Honda is bringing a few fuel cell zero emissions cars to the U.S. The catch? There are only a dozen or so available and those are going to celebrities. While it's cool, it seems like a viable market for these is years and years away. Here's the story:
What do you think? Hugely promising or more noise than substance?

Well that was a slanted article if i ever saw one. So what if Honda Lets a couple of stars drive this great vehicle. Honda comes out with a vehicle with zero emissions (just puts out a little water in the end) and this article trashes it because a few stars get it. The vehicle is limited to So Cal because thats the only place in the US with enough fueling stations. I would love to have one, but it makes no sense in my area because there is only one station that I know of (Washington, DC area) and its about 15-20 miles from home. This vehicle may turn out to be the greatest advancement in the early 21st century and the article focuses on stupid stuff. Does any other car maker have a vehicle like this for the road yet. Honda is probably right about the electic cars. Hybrids are popular because they charge themselves. What is one expected to do when they drive about 100 miles from home and run out of juice. Even if electric stations are set up to charge the battery, it would take time to charge. At this point electrics make good commuter cars and cars for short distances, but until batteries have a longer range they won't work for most people.
I think the lease amount is great for a limited edition concept car on the road today (not 2015). The article also failed to mention that maintenance and insurance is included in the cost.

The Honda FCX is a nice neat new concept. But the Hydrogen replenishment station and more dependency are still in question. For the market to adapt this new way of driving and fueling, there will need to be some pilot program. I don't think less than 1 dozen in the program is enough to determine viable results, but it is a start. Those FCX are pricey investment, at least Honda is biting the bullet on that and initiate something. I hope it will not be the hybrid flop where Honda started with the funky Insight and Prius took most the glory
