You can get a re-manufactured Transmission from the link below.
If you take it to honda they will also put a re-manufactured transmission-not a new transmission for a much higher price.

The transmission price is $1,377.00, plus shipping $185.00, included is a 2 year unlimited mileage warranty and also a remanufactured torque converter.

Good Luck.

I purchased a new 2002 Odyssey and had all the recommended services done by the Honda Dealership.
At 176,000 miles transmission would slip going into gear at about 30 mph.  Took it to dealer who said rebuilt transmission would cost $3,700.  I took it to transmission shop and had it repaired for $1,700.  I'm still driving and its doing good.

I will never buy another Honda and that dealer wasn't up front with all the Honda transmission problems.  It's Toyota from here on.

I have a 2003 Odyssey with 150,000 km on it!  I will have to have the transmission rebuilt.  I went back to the dealership a month after purchasing the car to tell them that it almost felt like it would stall at times.  Of course, they found nothing!  Over the years there has been an intermittent problem with what I realize now is the car changing gears.  It is much worse now!!!  I'm going to file a complaint with Honda Canada.  Does anyone have any suggestions?

I've owned hondas all my life and never had the kind of problems I've had with my 2000 Odyssey. My transmission was replaced under warranty two years ago, and apparently the new one is even worse than the original since it failed after 43,000 miles! Now the dealership in Berkeley, CA is telling me that I have to pay for the replacement this time. What kind of cruddy transmission only lasts 40k miles? I'm calling honda tomorrow, but if honda doesn't help me with this repair I'm never buying another honda again.

I have a 2000 honda van an I will never purchase another again, they suck and honda would not help me out.  They know that this honda transmission is crap so they should replace everyone's transmission without any problems.  I called customer service and they said there was nothing that they could do. I told her that I was going to switch to Toyota and she laught at me. I have another mission and that his to see honda's sales decrease.  I would like to see them go out of business. I will never purchase another honda in my life and I will spread the news that the Honda Van sucks. I will say again, I will never purchase another honda van again.

I too have an '02 Odyssey with tranny problems.  Mine started just after the warranty expired and knowing how much dealers charge to replace a tranny instead of rebuilding it I went to AAMCO. They rebuilt the tranny and I bought the extended warranty on their work. Boy am I glad for that. They have rebuilt the transmission 5 times in the last two years. Problems have ranged from: 1)slipping in two gears, 2)check engine/TCS lights coming on, 3)"0740" torque converter clutch codes, 4) overheating the tranny fluid and boiling over, 5)engine revving excessively because torque converter clutch not working, 6) hesitation in shifting (probably the torque converter clutch). The last time AAMCO worked on the tranny was Labor Day 2009. The owner was having trouble understanding the hesitation in shifting problem my wife was trying to describe so he drove it home. He got to see a failure first hand when he lost two gears and almost had to have it towed himself. They put in a different transmission that they rebuilt and I paid for a new computer ($500). This tranny lasted 8 weeks before the torque converter clutch went bad again and the whole tranny will have to be rebuilt again (under AAMCO warranty). I realize now after reading these posts that A) this tranny is a bad design, B) Honda has become like the American cars of old, crappy, and C) it is time to buy a non-Honda.
I wish everyone luck with a class action lawsuit but I wouldn't hold your collective breaths.

WOW! Here I thought that my experience with Honda and a dealer was unique only to find out that the it seems the same story plays out across the nation. Maybe Honda wrote the script on how the dealers should treat the customers and deal with this transmission debacle.

Honda admits that they installed substandard quality transmissions in Odysseys, but they are intent on making life miserable for the thousands of Odyssey owners who are left with inoperable minivans.

I'm not going to tell my story cuz it's the exact same as all of the others. The dash board lights. The blinking "D4". The harsh shifting. The van not moving at all. Dealer was nasty. The list goes on!

All I can say is, if you got a problem like this, even if it's out of warranty, pester the hell out of Honda!

pshanley:
Yes, have all of your service records in hand when negotiating with Honda. Also contact Honda Canada customer service to discuss with them as well.

Contact Jared, however, your 2001 should have been covered with the first Class Action.  Verify this through the US NHTSB and Transport Canada Recall Sections.  Would you mind sending me a copy of the letter of February 2007 and also to Jared Stamell in NYC.

Thanks Penny

Hello all:
I guess I just joined the club....My transmission went out at 120K in Honda EX 2000. My honda dealer had replaced 2 prior transmissions with no apparent failure. I hope they honor this one (It went out this Saturday night). But I have the feeeling that I probably have to fight this one....Could you please give me Jared's info. He seems the guy that I should be talking to. Thanks for your support in this delicate matter, Jaime.

Hello all,

My name is Walter Hardy and I own a 2003 Honda Odyssey.  In December of 2006, my original transmission went up on me with 87k miles.  Honda replace it with no cost to me.  My replacement transmission just went up on me at 150k miles.  Come on now, Neither American Honda or my dealer will do anything about this.  I have owned Hondas since 1986 and this is the first negative problem that I have experienced.  Any suggestions?  How do I get in touch with this Jared guy?  My email address is walt.hardy@verizon.net

Thanks for this information and hopefully someone out there can be of assistance.

Bought 2002 used Honda Odyssey in January 2009. I am second owner. In May, noticed lack of gear engagement running at around 45 miles per hour.

For the next couple months, experienced intermittent gear non-engagement when accelerating to between 25 and 40 mph. Also noticed transmission revving when down-shifting from 45 mph to approx. 25 mph. Van must be stopped to re-engage transmission in roughly 99% of cases. These are all under normal driving conditions.

Around July 2009, started conducting online research and contacted Honda Corporate about transmission problem through their corporate site. Was assigned regional case manager who advised to take van to dealer. Dealer evaluated through test drive only. Could not replicate transmission slipping and dismissed safety issues submitted through thousands of filed complaints.

Contacted regional case manager again. He advised to monitor the situation and mark when the issues arose again, to make specific note of weather conditions and driving scenarios. No urgency to have van fixed beyond the absolute minimum cost on their part, even though would be best for van to be fixed before maximum damage to van and personal life is realized.

Oct. 2009 van shifts hard and transmission light comes on. Take van to dealer and vehicle needs new transmission costing $4,700. Was told after labor and parts, rebuilt transmission was not in my best interest and "new" transmission is best option. Service manager contacts their local corporate Honda rep. who offers $1,500 in assistance (even though I am being charged $2,870).

Recontact Honda regional rep through 800#. He says, “This is not a problem that is out of the ordinary.”

After reading other consumer accounts on same vehicle make and year, realize I am putting my wife and children's life in danger yet will be in severe financial hardship to get van fixed.

Sent letter to Honda president last week.

Got final word from Honda Corporate regional case manager today that their offer is final. I want in on the class action lawsuit if original transmission is found to be faulty. I have to get the work done so we’ll be making an appointment to have it done next week. At least it comes with a 3-year/36,000 mile warranty. We’ll be selling before that runs out, to be sure. This will be our last Honda purchase.

Just received a call from my Honda service rep advising of diagnostic codes P0740, P0730, P0780 on my 2003 Honda Odyssey with 81,025 miles on it. Nearly identical symptoms as those previously reported on this site: Engine Check light - ON, TCS light - intermittently on and off, unpredictable gearshifts to 2nd and 3rd gears under varying driving speeds. Have been quoted $4,789  for a remanufactured transmission, $624 for mounts, among other suggested maintenance items.

Have registered a complaint with the NHTSA under Confirmation number (ODI Number) is: 10292179.

Will call Jared Stamell tomorrow and include my name/join the prospective class action suit.

I suspect that there are many other Honda Odyssey owners who experience this problem and are unaware that a class action suit is in the offing. Wonder how they can be reached so they can be aware of such a development.

Thanks to all (especially to Penny) who are involved in getting Honda to do right by their client base.
