honda odyssey transmission problem

Hello....

I am a Canadian owner of a 2001 Odyssey.  Just notified today that my transmission requires replacement. I have a copy of a Feb. 2007 letter from Honda stating that the warranty had been extended to 93 months or 175,000kms. I am three months over on time and 800kms under the mileage.  Dealer wants $4100 to replace transmission.  I've requested the service manager to consider "goodwill warranty".

Any pointers?

Any information re. this second class action lawsuit?

Should I be speaking with a lawyer?

Thanks in advance. Holding in limbo.....

Yes, have all of your service records in hand when negotiating with Honda. Also contact Honda Canada customer service to discuss with them as well.

Contact Jared, however, your 2001 should have been covered with the first Class Action.  Verify this through the US NHTSB and Transport Canada Recall Sections.  Would you mind sending me a copy of the letter of February 2007 and also to Jared Stamell in NYC.

Thanks Penny

Hi Penny,
I already spoke with Jared on my problem (same as everyone else). Since I'm past the 93 month warrenty period I'm SOL.  Jared said if Honda is willing to pickup 50% of the transmissions cost, he suggested I take it.  He said there was nothing more that can be done.  I brought the car in yesterday for the "operation".  Too bad, that car never gave me any problems until that dam "check engine" light came on.  Now I'll get it fixed and look to dump it.

Thanks for the discussion.

Here's how the story ends for me.....

Honda's district supervisor offered me $1000 off the cost of repair ($4100).....and no warranty on the service.

So...I drove it down the street to Mister Transmission where the transmission will be rebuilt for a cost somewhere between $1800 and $3000 with a one year warranty on the service.

Very disappointing!  Honda can be assured that they lost a customer....2-3 years down the road when I'm looking to spend $45000 on a new vehicle.

Just had my tranny go on my 2001 odyssey at 102,000. It was just out of warrenty and paid off.  Honda offered me $600 off of $3200.  I feel ripped off.  They put in a bogus transmission and should replace it for free and with a real transmission not the crappy free one thats bound to break down.  This is my 4th honda and now my last!!!!  Is there any thing I can do besides going elsewhere(not honda) and buying a rebuilt trans?  Is that law suit going anywhere? and if yes how do I join?

We brought our 2003 Odyssey in late 2002 brand new at Goodson Honda in Houston, Texas and paid extra to have dealer order from Japan. We took it to all the free dealer oil changes, the program lasted 3 years, had it brought in for its first recall because of faulty trans. mechanism. Since then I’ve taken real good care of it, change the oil every 3k and had transmission fluid replaced twice since then as well.

Last year the “D” for the drive gear blinked on and off. Took it in to dealer and said one of two trans solenoid needed replacing at a cost of 288.00. I told I would do it and drove it home. The next day and ever since I haven’t seen it turn back on until about 2 months ago, but haven’t had chance to replace because I can’t afford it since my wife and I lost our jobs almost simultaneously and have been out of work since. The TCS light turns on and off periodically as well.

Last week to make matters worse, the check engine light came on, thought it was the gas cap but  checked and it clicks tight and doesn’t seem to be damaged in any way from what I can see. Currently has over 107K miles and were informed that Xtended warranty has expired paid over 1600.00 at time of purchase.

Given the history of transmission problems with this model, is there any chance we may fall into that “class action” category and what do you suggest I do at this point?

I am in the exact same boat as you. Mine has 149k and is on its last leg on the second transmission. HONDA is in a real mess, and they have lost me as a customer. To bad , had been a loyal customer with 5 previous HONDA purchases. Have told all my friends and it has cost them at least 10 new sales. We can get even

I have Honda Oydseey 2001 w/only 70k miles. The engine light wnet one last week and I was told I need a new transmission. My warranty was over 3 months ago. The dealer told me it would cost me $3200 to fix. I contacted American Honda and I have not heard from them. Any Suggestion? I would like to join an action lawsuit.

It is terrible that Honda put out a substandard product and is not backing it up!

We purchased a new 2001 Odyssey and thought we was getting the best mini van on the market. The transmission failed at 38000 miles. The dealer replaced it free of charge and gave us a free rental while the work was done.

At 83000 miles the transmission failed again. I was told Honda was no longer doing business with the transmission manufacturer and that this would be the last transmission this vehicle would need. Again the dealer agreed to supply a rental while the work was done.

Now at 145,000 miles it's in for another transmission. After calling Honda of America and yelling in the service department Handa has agreed to cover 75% of the cost. No rental this time around. I'm going to have to shell out $800 out of my own pocket to get this repaired.

I've filed a complain with the attorny generals office. I WILL NEVER buy a honda product again......

To make matters worse the dealership asked if I would consider trading in the van for a Pilot. They was willing to give me $1000 trade in. Nice of them huh? I asked them what happened to the #1 vehicle for holding its value?

I told them to fix the transmission..... Cash for clunkers?

Dealers are huge RIP OFF artists. They wanted $465 dollars to replace the wiper motor on the rear door. I bought the wiper motor on line for $70 bucks and replaced it myself in an hour. I confronted te dealership about it and they told me the reason their cost was high was because they use "genuine Honda Parts".
They wanted $900 to do the 100,000 mile tuneup where they replace the timing belt and water pump. I took it down the street to the mobile station and they did it for $637 bucks.

So I would recommend local mechanics as opposed to going to the dealership.

It seems that these vehicle have transmission problem. I have my vehicle for  ten years 91,000miles. And now the transmission went out. I replaced it before at 41,000 miles. I think Honda should replace the transmission, since this was a issue before.
