NEVER EVER BUY HONDA! HONDA CANADA REPAIRS - nothing short of making heads spin; $100+/hour labour! and the cherry on the cake, change/replace compliance bushings (approx $60-80 rubber parts) COMPLETE JOB $650+ !!! so much for the 'honda quality' bravado; engineering ? what a laugh ! probably the worst design - just to reach/service the bushings, please hold tight to your chairs gents/ladys, THE LOWER CONTROL ARM ON BOTH SIDES MUST BE REMOVED C/W LOWER BALL JOINTS AND STABILIZER BAR then the old bushings removed and the new ones must be pressed in THEN REASSEMBLE EVERYTHING DISSMANTELED AND A FRONT END ALIGNEMENT PERFORMED.
but that's not all, HONDA in its 'wisdom' TOOK GOOD CARE AND MADE SURE THAT FUTURE PILES OF *** ARE ASSURED AND SOONER OR LATER IT'LL ROLL IN, how? v insidiously, just read honda's service bulletin #04-079 repair procedure re ball joints - if the lower ball joints are removed and somehow need replacement OR THE BORE DOES NOT RESPOND PROPERLY TO HONDA'S DESIGNED MEASURING TOOL THEN THE KNUCKLES MUST BE REPLACED !! (Knucles - major parts and lots of *** SO MUCH FOR HONDA GOOD ENGINEERING AND DESIGN ! moreover, all these parts that are key for safe driving ARE NOT protected at all against adverse road conditions like salt, sand, dirt etc. they are pure and simple designed and left to function 'bare naked' right at the front of the vehicle, 4-5in from the pavement. rubber quality of these bushings ? apparently just to hold until the car is out of warranty, after that LET THE 'PROUD OWNER OF A HONDA' dole out *** HONDA Customer RELATIONS chapter ? what customer relations? if anyone needs to face arrogance and aloofness then honda is the place; the image they projected is as if one's talking to the gods of cars. it does not matter that the car was exclusively maintained in their shop for years, that the car is in excellent condition overall, that was never abused etc etc. they know one thing only and sadly for them - the car is out of warranty and 'the proud owner of a honda' must dole up big *** to be even prouder. well, too bad for them by taking this road; one thing is for sure - NO MORE HONDA ON THIS HOUSEHOLD; THAT'S FOR SURE. a question still remains - when will be the day that $100+/hour and customer relations of HONDA CATCH UP WITH THE PLIGHT OF THE OTHER BRETHREN LIKE GM AND CHRYSLER??? my guess is that it'll be much sooner than thought.

Hello 2326,
I am the owner of a 2003 Honda Accord EX-V6. After 172,000Kms, my transmission is toast. I am sure you will agree that the automatic transmission in this car is known for it's design flaws. Considering that I drive 66 Km one way to work, my car rarely shits once it is on the 4 lane hightway. I am curious though, I have had my Honda serviced by my Honda dealership at there recommended intervals and I have all the receipts and bills. I am quite a picky on pm, so I understand your comments. My question is "should Honda replace this tranny at there cost"? Right now I am looking at a "deal" of $3000. This is not near the quality I expected from Honda.

sonia, I am curious. How long ago and how many kms did you get your tranny replaced? I have a 2003 Accord EX-V6, it has 172,000 kms with the same problem and I am looking at a "deal" of $3000 repair. I am also interested in a CANADIAN class action lawsuit, although if I do not find one, I am going to small claims court. I bought a Honda for quality, and how long will this "new" tranny last.....

I too have a 2008 Accord EXL. so far the car has been good but the dealership leaves much to be desired. I had it in yesterday to have the outside temperature checked as it wasn't reading correctly. They said they didn't find anything wrong so charged me $32 and told me to come back if it happens again. NOT LIKELY! What happened to their warranty. Their customer service is out the window. I am sorry I bought a Honda. Any suggestions?

Interesting. We have a 2007 Honda Odyssey and the rotors needed replacment after 30,000 km. According to Phil Edmundston's LemonAid book, rotors should last an average of 60,000 km, so Honda's rotors lasted half of the average life expectancy. Now, the automatic sliding door on one side won't close properly. Our vehicle was purchased in the US, and Honda won't honour the warranty, because "Honda Canada and Honda US are two totally separate companies." No they aren't! Honda vehicles manufactured in the US are sold in the Canadian market and vice versa. Furthermore, Honda's own website states that if a customer bought a Honda in Canada, the warranty could be transferred to the US. So not so totally separate. I asked what would happen if there was a product recall that affected safety. They said it wouldn't be covered unless I took my vehicle to the US, and, moreover, the Canadian Honda dealership wouldn't advise me of the product recall, even if they regularly service my vehicle and have it on file. So I said, "So, I have to drive a death trap to the US to get a manufacturer's defect fixed??" Oh, well, in "special circumstances" (read fear of a major lawsuit should there be a death or injury related to a manufacturer's defect), they could do the repairs, under warranty, in Canada.
Given that vehicles are much cheaper to buy in the US, and an estimated 60,000+ cars yearly are purchased in the US and imported into Canada, the warranty issue must arise frequently. Does anyone know of anyone who has successfully sued Honda to get them to honour warranties on vehicles purchased in the US?

Rescently I traded my 07 Accord SE at Surrey Honda Canada. I purchased it brand new lat Aug. 22, 2007 with 10KM initially. And I traded it in last Sep. 19 2009 with 39,000+KM. I puchased for it a Tricare Ultimate extended warranty for 7 years 120,000KM for $1243. Originally the car has 5yrs 100,000KM powertrain manufacturer's warranty anf 3 yrs 60,000KM comprehensive manufacturer's warranty. The time I traded it in an agent named Carly Shantz tried to lure me into buying a new warranty for my new car. She said its the only way I could benefit from my previous warranty. That is when a cancellation of the previous would only be possible and certain amount from what I paid would be credited in my new warranty. Otherwise if I don't buy a new one I couldn't apply for cancellation and that warranty would just transfer to the next owner of my car. I believed her at first and I was enclined then to buy a new one. SO we agreed to wait for the cancellation result and decide later on what warranty terms I'll buy. But when I learned from them that from the 1,243 that I paid I would only get 384, and buying a new one will cost me more money than what I'm getting back. So I started to think and I went through the policy and realized my option of cancelling the contract anytime. I was upset why is this lady not telling me about such options. So I went back to her and told her I won't buy anymore extended warranty for my new car. And you know what she said, "SO WE'RE NOT GOING TO PROCEED WITH THE CANCELLATION". My blood started to boil up, I told her, "WAIT I THINK I HAVE AN OPTION TO CANCEL". Her reply was, "WHERE DID YOU READ THAT". My God as if she don't know about it... and I was upset some more... and I told her why you're not telling me about this option. Immediately she changed her statement and begun to agree on proceeding with the cancellation. And she started saying you didn't undertand me and says WE'RE GOING TO PROCEED WITH THE CANCELLATION. I said no it was not your statement awhile ago, and she kept insisting that I didn't understand her. What the hell... Hello I'm not deaf. I sent an complain email to Surrey Honda general manager and stated I was decieved. I hope he would take action. So I'm calling out to other people who had been a client of this lady CARLY SHANTZ of SurreyHonda Canada, you might have been fooled too. It's not to late to complain... that lady should be given a lesson from her foolishness.

I also had major problems with my Honda, after spending a lot of hours arguing with Honda Canada I decided to trade my Honda in for a Toyota. They gave me a very good price for the Honda! That's the only positive thing I must say about Honda, they have excellent resale value when you trade them in for a Toyota! For now...

Trade your Honda in for a Toyota while it still has good value. Or check out the Nissan's they are highly underrated cars that give great bang for the buck.

Well I’m one of you now!! That is an extremely pissed off Honda Odyssey owner and I work for the cheap bastards. I've worked for HCM (Honda Can. Mfg) for 10 years and proudly bought my first Honda in 2003. Things were ok untill last winter when I noticed that the tranny was slipping when it was cold. The problem seemed to lessen as the weather warmed up so I let it ride for a while. Then in August I decided to have my timing belt replaced (it was due). Against my better judgment (because of all the negative stories I’d heard about our local dealership, Barrie Honda) I decided to let them change the timing belt and to take a look at the Transmission in regards to the problems I was having and whether or not it was related to the call back issues with the Odyssey transmissions. That's when the fun started, first the dealership nailed me $300 worth of extra "needed parts" for my timing belt replacement. Then after I got it back I began to notice that the Tranny problems had gotten worse after they had checked it and told me it was ok and did not require the oil jet replacement kit that the service bulletin (call back) suggested. Then after 3 weeks of calls and visits with the crooked bandits that ran the service dept. at Barrie Honda they finally confirmed that my transmission was slipping and "clunky" when shifting. Then they said that they would flush and refill my tranny to see if that would help. And then yep !! You guessed it, that made it worse. Next the service (weasel) manager said that he would pass my issues along to Honda Canada, a basic “pass the buck” move designed to get an angry "customer" out of the dealership with the least amount of hassle so the other customers (suckers) don't hear how they deal with problem vehicles. Anyway when I went back to the dealership a week later to get my answer the service manager told me that Honda Canada said “no” to covering any part of the repair cost but if I had a problem with that I could call the 1-888 "bend over line” (my words) to Honda Canada customer service. More of the pass the buck crap!!! Well what a treat that was. He was without a doubt the worst, most rude, dismissive and unhelpful customer relations person I have ever dealt with. He basically kept telling me over and over that regardless of the history of issues with the Honda Odyssey transmissions and the incompetent service dept. at Barrie Honda who made things worse that it was NOT their problem !! Since being an employee of Honda (HCM) I’ve always believed that Honda was a customer satisfaction driven company. I now know better, it’s all about the bottom line when it comes to dealing with their customer and product related problems. Rather than take responsibility for their quality issues and treat their customers fairly they would rather turn a blind eye and leave them hanging out to dry because the cost of fixing THEIR problems is more than they are willing to pay to keep their customers satisfied.. So to close this post I’ll tell you what I ended up telling that rude Honda customer relations rep., before I hung up on him “ I’ve bought my last Honda and I can't wait to drive into the parking lot at work (Honda Can. Mfg) in my shiny new Toyota and tell all my fellow associates why I no longer drive a Honda…
