I agree....NO MORE HONDAS...after 18 years of loyalty...my civic got towed to the dealer this morning. I have had nothing but problems with this vehicle. I repeatedly complained to several dealers about the transmission and Honda Canada...and got no satisfaction...the release to the gas door broke...and I found it was made out of plastic...this morning the battery was dead and after CAA boosted it ...smoke, oil and noise came bellowing out from under the hood. All this from a 2004 car with 60K on it. In my opinion Honda's, Honda service, and the way Honda Canada deals with customer complaints is substandard...so I will vote with my wallet...and my next car will not be a Honda....

NO MORE HONDAS...EVER....After having my car towed to the dealership this morning the service person told me that my battery is dead..and I need a new one...fair enough...but at twice the price I could get one anywhere else...But here is the real marvel of the whole situation...the smoke and noise and oil came from the air conditioner that has been overfilled by persons unknown. They want me to believe that someone is sneaking into my driveway at night and adding refrigerant to my car. I used to be a mechanic...and I think I know a crock of *** when I hear it...currently I am on hold with Honda Canada....customer service...this has reached the point that it is totally FUBAR... SHAME ON YOU HONDA....TIME TO GO BACK TO NORTH AMERICAN CARS I THINK....

i am glad to see that you guys cannot seem to understand a basic fact, i work at a dealer as a service advisor we get alot of -you- people who say  i  have warranty, well yes, you do IF YOU KEEP UP WITH REGULAR MAINTENANCE! That is the first line in honda canada's warranty guide, so to all you guys with transmission issues i hope you have proof of changing the fluid every 48 000km or 36 months that proof must include vin number and owner name on bills. if not good luck to you guys.

unfortunately with the 2006-2007 non SI civic they have quite a few issues with the motors, but all have been covered under warranty at our dealer. The downside is that it is an inconvenience to our customers when their brand new car breaks down, trust me we do feel bad we do our best to keep you the customer happy, but engine blocks are not readly availble do to the fact they don't normaly fail. if you purchased the honda plus extended warranty honda canada would have covered your rental.

last but not least to the person with the tow truck issue, you are the type of person who jumps on the bandwagon for picking who to blame. HONDA ROADSIDE does not send a HONDA "CERTIFIED" TOW TRUCK OPERATOR it's called a sublet. Go after the towing company. REMEMBER IT IS WARRANTY AKA MANUFACTURER'S DEFECT! We have had alot of issues with tow opperators (not from honda roadside) damage cars, we help our customers out to fight against these idiots, and get the damages repaired.

now to the last poster with your " TIME TO GO BACK TO NORTH AMERICA CARS" you sir need to brush up on your reading the accord, civic, crv, pilot, ridgeline are all made in NORTH AMERICA. if you still think honda is fully japanese you sir need a fresh cup of coffee. I hear Ford is offering family pricing so pick up a fusion or flex.

And to all a good day.

I turned my back on Honda over ten years ago now and would not go back.

At the time I had an Accord, which was the worst car I have ever owned.
I had brake problems, exhaust problems, rust and, to top it all off, a tie rod of some sort broke on the rear wheels that had them cant inward 45%(thankfully that didn't happen on the highway). The only thing good about it was the resale value. Even with some kind of cluster gear noise from the front end when we sold it, we got fairly good value on the sale.  However poorly I felt about the product, there are clearly enough people who have faith in it to keep up the used value.

What puzzles me is why people continue to have faith in Honda.  North American buyers find it easy to dump all over domestic manufacturers, but excuse their Japanese purchases even when it gives them trouble.  My neighbour still defends the purchase of his two Hondas, even though they are not that old and both visibly rusting.

I have bought several Chrysler products since my Honda mistake and, although a lot of people seem to dump on Chrysler, I have been very happy.  I have had no issues but changing oil and tune ups

I agree Honda sucks.  We have a 2000 Honda Odyssey that recently had to have the  transmission replaced.  At a cost of $ 3500.  This transmission did have a recall - but only if you had had a problem with it prior to 160,000 km.  We did have multiple problems prior to the 160,000 km but they kept insisting that all that needed to be done was top up the fluids and tighten the belts.  When the transmission actually went it was at 190,000 km.  When talking with Honda Canada they stated that they had no control because it was over the warranty.  After sometime they did actually agree to kick in $ 1,000 and the dealership was to reduce the hourly rate charged for labour and only bill for six hours, apparently the reduce labour rate is $ 168.68/hr.  What a reduction!!!!  Not only that, we picked up the vehicle after the tranny repairs only to have to have it towed back within 2 hours as the serpintine belt went, phone call from the dealership stated the repair costs were going to be somewhere between $ 2500 - $ 3800.  Can you believe that!!!!  Talked with Honda Canada again, they again stated, not our problem all dealerships are independantly owed.  So a vehicle that cost us $ 35,000 five years ago, has now cost us an additional $ 6000 - $ 7300.  This would almost buy 1/2 a brand new Caravan. And we bought a Honda product why?  Would love to join the Class Action Lawsuit.  Regards and hope to hear from you soon.

He have just had our transmission fail on a 2003 Odyssey at 108,00 km.  Repair estimate was approx $4000, including a broken motor mount.  I contacted Honda Canada and after much discussion and a whole lot of inconvenience they indicated that they would reduce the cost to approximately $2800, not including the engine mount.  This price is the same as I have been quoted from an indpendant transmission shop so I don't see that they have really offered me anything (except to perhaps not gouge me for the repairs arising from premature failure of their transmission).  I called Honda Canada Customer Relatinos to attempt to negotiate a fairer arrangement and the rep has now advised that this is a take it or leave it offer.  I need my van and will likely have to pay but will continue to seek compensation for these repair costs, and other associated costs including my time in all this.  I would appreciate any contact info re Class Actions - I am in the Greater Vancouver Area.

We have a 2005 Honda Civic and 2006 Dodge Caravan, both serviced by the selling dealers. The Honda dealer service is pricey and the attitude is aloof.  I think it's because they are the only Honda dealer in this 150,000-population city. And because Hondas are so popular, the dealers can get away with costlier, less responsive service. The Chrysler dealer on the other hand bends over backwards (there are two Chrysler dealers in the city).  Interesting problem developed with the Civic. Recently the locking gas cap wouldn't open (the cable broke).  Googling for this, I found it is a common problem for this year Civic. The fix cost us a $25 deductible on the extended warranty we bought at the initial car purchase. Otherwise it would have cost us $120! Fortunately, I found a cheap fix on the internet for the next time it happens (which it will, since this is apparently a design flaw on '05 Civics). Incidentally, this is my third Dodge minivan and all have been quite reliable. What's more, they are cheap to insure compared to Hondas. The savings here really add up over the years.  On the other hand, the resale value on Dodge mninivans sucks.  The trick is to drive them for 12 years or so, which they are quite capable of doing.

My mother was looking to purchase a new hatchback.  She had her heart set on the Honda Fit.  We first visited Crowfoot Village Honda where we test drove a 2008.  The salesman worked up a price on a yellow scratch pad then agreed to throw in floor mats.   I telephoned Honda West where the salesman lured us over the phone with promise of trade-in on 2009.   The Kelly Blue Book and AAA website both suggest trade-in value for her 1992 Ford Thunderbird was $975 but she was offered $100.   Congratulations Honda on hoodwinking an old lady out of her pension money.  I'll never buy a Honda !!

She could have bought a 2009 DODGE CALIBRE for the same money.  More car = Better Value

if any one is planning a class action law suite against honda canada please contact me.  I have a 2003 accord the timing chain broke with out any kind of warning, the service dept at the delaer ship said it happened and no warning was given, not driver error, now Honda canada say's it's past warranty so can only do so much and the delear ship has a new engine, first they said 1 year parts and labour warranty and now since they found an engine with less KM'S and cheaper it doesn't sound like they are giving me a break and have reduced from 1 year to 6 months warranty, getting ripped of left right and centre.

I have a 2005 Honda Civic bought used and a 2007 Civic bought new. I bought both cars the same month in 2007. The 2005 was backed into, so we took it to the dealer. They advised that it needed $1500 worth of front end work. After taking it to another dealer, it needed no work at all! The 2007 developed an anti-freeze leak, had a dead battery and a check engine light on at 10,000KM. The dealer replaced the battery under warranty, but was going to charge for all other repairs! Their excuse was an aftermarket air intake, which they sell! When I refused they vandalized the car, by draining the rad, tearing apart the wiring harness to make it inoperable! I am a Refrigeration and Air-conditioning Mechanic, and caught it before we took the car. They also illegally tried to charge $150 for diagnostics and anti-freeze.
I involved Honda Canada customer service and they refused to do anything! Jean Robert from Honda said I could take it to another dealer if I wanted! I repaired the car myself! I have registered a complaint through the Consumer Protection branch in Ontario, but the dollar value is below their threshold! I will NEVER OWN A HONDA AGAIN.
I have bought and had 23 cars over the years and these are the only two cars that I have ever owned with these kind of problems! NEVER AGAIN!

I'm glad to see that I'm not the only one who is stating I will NEVER OWN A HONDA AGAIN!  I owned a 2006 Honda Ridgeline, loved my truck but the service was AWFUL!!  I would have to drive 2hrs to the nearest dealership, fair enough it was my choice to drive an import with no dealership in the town I lived in, but when I would call with an issue (fan wasn't working, mid winter in Northern Alberta, was a big deal) I called 2 weeks in advance, booked the truck in, get there and "yeah, we have to order the part, it may or may not be covered under warranty, we will call you when it comes in to bring the truck back".  This was the third time I had problems with the dealership, having to drive my Leased truck 460km round trip TWICE for the same issue, warranty issues, parts issues and just plain inconsiderate service staff, I was FINISHED. I had made 3 formal complaints to Honda Canada.  Long story short I drove down the block and begged GM to get me out of my lease, it took a day and a half and $1000 penalty but it was the BEST decision I have ever made in my life!
NOW I get the letter about the class action settlement regarding the Honda Odometers AFTER the "it may or may not be under warranty"... never never never again, and I would never recommend another honda product to anybody because of the service.. too bad, loved my truck.
