When the engine technology exists in Europe to get 37 mpg (highway) in an Opel Antara (Saturn VUE) AllWD SUV, why in the world is GM pursuing two-mode hybrid technology in their Saturn VUE which incidentally is only available in F(front)WD?

Is GM's decision to not bring over the 4WD/AWD 2.0 turbodiesel based on the Euro:US$ exchange rate?  Is it too expensive to modify this powerplant to meet EPA specs?  Or does GM think we Americans are stupid enough to buy into their FWD only two-mode hybrid?

Last year, I sent Bob Lutz a very considerate request, via the post, to bring over the Antara's turbodiesel.  To date, I've not received a reply from the architect of GM's global transformation.

Thanks,

Woops.  How bout the exchange between the Korean Won and our US$?  After further investigation, we find that the Antara and it's turbodiesel engine are made in Korea.
