Well, at least I got some attention with the subject line...Even if a majority are saying "yeah, right". With the same powerplant and comparable brakes and suspension in all but the most pressing situations maybe the performance level of the RS4 does favorably approach the R8.  of course it falls short due to size, weight, weight distribution, and aerodynamics.  Still, at a savings approaching half it would seem to be very close in performance all things considered, and it is nice to have a back seat and big trunk.  I love the cutting edge style and technology of the R8, it will gain Audi immeasurable clout, but the RS4 is truly a wolf in sheep's clothing...maybe even somewhat of a bargain amoung uber autos.  Opinions?  

I'm a BIG Audi fan (A6, S6, A8 & S8)!I think that the RS4 is a great car, too. i'm 6'5" tall and 220 lbs.That is the only reason why the A4 isn't on my short list. I've been amased at how many want to compare the A4 to a VW Passat 4-Motion. If money is the issue the S6is a great selection. What's your thoughts?  

If you're going for raw performance on paper, get a Nissan GTR.

If you want something more mature, get a BMW M3 or an Audi RS4.

All of those cars have great performance and are fairly practical.

But none of them are exotic cars.

The miracle Audi pulled off with the R8 was that they created a true exotic car with the reliability and price of a Porsche 911. There are only about 600 R8's in the USA. Ferrari sells 3,000 new cars in the USA *EVERY YEAR*. Being in an R8, or even around an R8, is an event in itself. When you drive on the freeway, people hang out the window taking pictures of you with their camera phones. People walk right past a Lamborgini or a Ferrari to get a better look at an Audi R8.

It's the stuff you can't put on paper that the R8 excels at most. The RS4 is a great car, but it's no substitute for a mid engine exotic.
