Hi, I would like to know what info you have about another class action.  I have a 2003 Odyssey and have had transmission trouble.  My car was under warranty and they still would not cover their faulty engineering.  I was hoping to get help, advice or reimbursed for what I had to fork over for a problem that they knew about and tried to act llike it was my fault.  We need a new car and I don't know about getting another Odyssey.  HELP!!!!!

I am in the same boat with my 2002 Odyssey. Just 50K miles. Dealer says transmission needs to be replaced. Very frustrating.

Would like to join the class suit.

We are starting the second Class  Action Lawsuit.  Honda needs to held accountable for intentionally selling vehicles that they know are unsafe, given their history of transmission problems.  Please contact me if you are interested in joining.

Penny- Our 1999 Odyssey replacement transmission (under some sort of recall a few years ago) just blew up after 35,000 miles. I anticipate the $3,500 estimate and would like to join the class action.

Hi Jim:

I am waiting to hear from Jared.  They need to do something regarding the first generation owners.  Honda obviously was replacing the defective transmissions with simply rebuilt defective transmissions.  This has not solved the problem, Honda must be held accountable for their underhanded conduct all in the name of profit.

I would encourage everybody to file a complaint with the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration at www.nhtsa.gov  as well, and highlight the safety aspect in your complaint.

Once you select your vehicle, you will already see countless complaints already about this Transmission issue.

With sufficient complaints, NHTSA may also issue a recall.

Purchased Honda Odyssey new in late summer/fall of 2000.  Vehicle downshifted hard while braking since new.  Thought it was how the vehicle operated.  I got a postcard in the mail a few years ago stating Honda was going to extend the warranty on the transmission because of a potential problem.

I currently have 136,000 miles on the van.  The check engine light came on 2 weeks ago.  I took it to the garage 4 days later to have inspection done & to figure out why the light came on.  The check engine light came on about 3-4 years ago and Honda said it was the catalytic converter and the dealer (Piazza Honda of Reading, PA)  replaced it for free.  When I went to pick up the van from the inspection the garage would not pass the inspection.  The error code that came up was "PO740" and they said the transmission would need to be replaced, but I should take it to the dealer to verify.  I took the van from the garage to the dealer and gave them the receipt from my inspection (which had the error code on it).  The service guy took the receipt with him into the garage bay, talked to the manager and came back out.  He told me I need a new transmission and it would cost me $2500-$4500 to replace it.  I asked him if they were doing any "goodwill" with the on going transmission issue and he said NO.  I also asked specifically if they would split the cost and he said no.

I have had the van serviced several time at that specific Honda dealer and nothing was ever said to me about the transmission issue.  Honda expects me to pay for a new transmission on a known defect in their product.

Tomorrow (Monday) I am going to call Honda's corporate office and see what happens.  I have already filed a complaint with NHTSA.  And from reading all of the following posts looks like I will be joining the class action lawsuit too.

This is our 3rd Honda.  My wife was in an accident with our first, our second was a 1991 CRX and had over 250,000 miles on it until the timing belt broke in 2002, which I forgot to replace.  I figured to keep the van for at least 200,000.

Hi

I have a 2003 honda accord V6, which I bought from the original owner at 60K miles in Dec 2006.

The current mileage is 80K and i am having trouble with the transmission. The 1-2 shift is having the [probblem and the engine keeps revving, RPMs go up, but gears dont shift

I had it diagnosed by Mr Transmission and he gave me an estimate of 1600-2800 to repair it.

I took it to a honda dealership for a second opinion and they said they would run diagnostics on it. Since i dont have extended warranty, the replacement cost would be $6000, but the delaer would file paperwork for Honda "goodwill"

right now, the car is in the shop, and im in limbo with my life on hold coz i dont knwo how much money i will have to shell out in the next few weeks

If anyone can help in any way, id really appreciate it

I encountered exactly the same situation...I have a 2003 EX model with less than 80K Km and just pass the 5 year mark.  Honda really disappointed me for a number of reasons... We always take my car to Roadsport Honda for service and this problem was never diagnosed before the warranty expires.  Secondly, I was told by Honda Canada that there is absolutely no recall on the transmission and those transmission recalls by Honda America are not related and do not affect the van sold in Canada. Thirdly, I now face a $3k price tag to fix this van which is supposedly to be very reliable because it is a Honda but I am no long sure that is the case here.

riderchuck:
We purchased our Odyssey new from a local dealer and just finished paying it off after 5 years. Mileage is close to 102K.  We have taken it strictly to the dealer for all servicing over that period except 3 times we had the oil changed at Oil Can Henry's.  In addition we always babied this vehicle.  So now the dealer is telling us, after our warrenty is up, that he's sorry but we need a new $3200 transmission.  We feel this is a travesty but have nothing to judge it against to see if we've got any kind of a case with Honda or the dealer.  Does anyone out there have any experience along these lines?  Thanks.

Hi Guys,

If you read all the emails from the very beginning, we all have the same problem our transmission, the bad thing is after we paid it off, our transmission already worn out. I have a 03 EX too and have the same problem, and I just paid 1,500 for the labor to put a rebuild tranny, Honda paid for the tranny, and 370 for the Idle control valve, because they said they found this error code P0505. I think they were about to start a second class action.
