I also have a '02 Odyssey with 77,000 miles that my wife drives.  We also experienced transmission problems (rough shifting, slipping).  The check engine light came on with trouble code P0730 (Problem in Shift Control System).  Up until now, the car has never been into the dealer for repairs.  We have been very happy with it.
I purchased this vehicle new in Feb 02 over the Internet from an Autobroker based in Washington State.  The vehicle is a Canadian vehicle that was delivered by truck to me in CA where I lived at the time. I was never able to use the Canadian warranty in the US - Now since the transmission has failed, Do you think I have a chance of getting Honda to cover this?

I am not sure.  Have you contacted Honda directly?  Did you purchase the extended warranty?  Let me know what transpires.

If the class action suit is successful how does that affect those who have not had transmission problems yet? (Seems like it benefits all.)

We are doing more research, specifically on the design aspect.  My transmission has been sent out to a lab for testing.  So, now we wait.  However, the draft notice is waiting to be issued by the Courts.

I believe similar to the Class Action Suit regarding the 1999 to 2001 Odysseys, it would include all owners of the years involved in the current litigation.

I was just told our 2003 Odyssey would need a new transmission at 85000 miles.  Cost is 4300+tax.  The service rep is going to put a good will request with Honda but is not sure how much they will cover.  I just called the law office in NYC that is collecting data for a class action lawsuit.  Any other advice?  Should I have it repaired and they try to collect?  This stinks, just made final payment in November!

I had issues trying to get them to do anything.  Since I couldn't show that I had the recommended 30,000 mile transmission performed they wouldn't give me anything more.  I had the car after 30,000 miles and couldn't find anything.  They also said that they aren't saying that not having it done caused the problem...they just wanted to see if I was a customer who has a history of taking care of the vehicle.  I could The most I got was about $700 toward repairs.  We had the car repaired for over $2500 and traded it in to Toyota the same day we got it back.  We got a 2008 Toyota Sienna.  That was our first and last Honda.  They could have turned it around for us had they just handled the situation better by doing the right thing.

Well, I had a 2000 odyssey. Transmission faild at 103K. I contacted searched online and found out about a extended warranty for transnissions that Honda had for certain years that I can't remember now and it just up to 100K and 7 years. I called Honda to complain, but even before I complain they told me that they have extended that warranty to 107K and 7 years and 7 months. Anyway, they asked me to take my minivan to local dealer and they took care of the transmission with no cost for me at all. I didn't even have my prior maintenance records, because I never take my cars to dealerships and I bougth my minivan used. But they didn't even ask for maitenance records. My best recommendation, contact Honda, not the dealership, directly and find out about the tears they had the extended warranty and new milage or months limitation. Get their approval and then with that approval contact local dealer.

Your 2000 Odyssey was covered as it was part of the initial Class Action Lawsuit that Honda settled in 2003, that is why yours was covered for no cost.

Wait to see what Honda offers, make sure everything is in writing.  I repaired mine at a similiar cost with very much the intention to collect that plus damages, costs, inconvenience, loss of use etc etc...

Let me know what you decide.  My contact information is pshanley@bmts.com.

Good Luck

The dealership just called and informed me that Honda offered to pay 75% of the cost for the transmission.  This will cost me around $1000 and will come with a 3 year/36,000 mile warrantee.  I am stuck so I will have it repaired at this cost but will still pursue inclusion in a possible class action against Honda and try to recoup the $1000.  Originally, they offered 50% but the dealship was great and got the 75%.

I have a 2001 odyssey that had similar trans slipping problems @60k miles. I brought it twice to the dealer and they said they could not duplicate the problem. Now it is out of warranty and doing the same thing and a warning lite comes on and they say i need a trans .
I strongly advise you to keep taking it in and push them to fix the trans now while it is under warranty, because they are avoiding a big trans problem with odysseys. get it fixed while it is under warranty, I have to sue honda now because they will not fix it and they are liable because I have it documented that I brought it in twice for trans slipping problems before the warranty was up.

Thankyou for your posts . I will try to contact the attorney you mentioned.
I have to find legal advice regarding my odyssey that I brought in twice for trans slipping problems before the warranty expired. The service center said there was nothing wrong with the trans. And now it still does the same thing and a dash lite comes on and the  same dealer tells me i need a new trans.
I initially contacted Honda by phone and explained the situation and opened a case . they called me back within a day to say  it is out of warranty and they will not help at all with it.
It makes sense that the dealership was in the wrong to avoid fixing it while it was still under warranty. The way that honda corporate , and the dealership service dept. handled this was dismissive and unprofessional; It seems obvious that they are in a long process of pushing away many unhappy odyssey owners.  If you know of any other info I would greatly appreciate it. thankyou again,  michael
