2000 Odyssey 2005 Accord
Odyssey threw a code at 105k miles, we didn't notice any trans problems, but dealer diagnosed a failed transmission. I immediately called American Honda HQ (torrance, CA) and leaned heavily on them. They covered the entire service, 5k past drivetrain warrenty coverage, plus a free loaner car.
Had complete A/C failure about 95k, and got AM Honda to cover half (still spiked me about $2000).
Odyssey has 155k now, and I've noticed some slippage when in the mountains (6500 feet), but have pursued a vigorous program of crossing fingers and concentrated ignoring, and have not noticed any other problems. Just had tranny oil flushed and changed.
Accord, on other hand, killed it's transmission at 44k; fortunately I bought it certified, so all was covered.
Conclusion: WTF is wrong with these transmissions? I've never had to change a transmission in my life, and that includes a very modified Dinan5 BMW that I drove hard to 160k and it was still tight as a drum on everything original.
On the other hand, American Honda has been really easy to work with (for me at least). So I guess it's even. I'd still buy another.

Well, its the same BS again. Now after getting a new tranmission for our 2001 Honda Odyssey at 65k miles for free under the class action lawsuit posted, the second transmisson goes out again at 96k miles while on the freeway with my three children inside. Now at the dealer and arguing over the phone. I realized the dealerships offer of 50% to pay for another transmission is NOT acceptable. I have read many of the Honda Owners complaints and feel not only is Honda asking for another lawsuit, but the engine mount problem at +/-$400.00 is another exspense that could be strongly linked to transmission failure. Today I called American Honda to open a case file with Marlene. I did tell her that this isn't amount the money so much as it is living up to the reputation and safety that Honda Dealerships and Advertizing claims announce. Replacing the second transmission at 96k miles and warrant it for only 12 months tells me American Honda needs another lesson on replacing the transmission with the same crap. A replacment of something because its bad/faulty with the same bad/faulty part, doesn't make it right. I would like help in going after Honda. I called the original attornty's office and they said they couldn't sue again. Please help.

I have a 2001 Odyssey that had the transmission replaced in Jan. 2007 after 80k. The dealer covered this under the extended warranty. Just yesterday the new transmission failed. The van only has an addition 40k miles on it and less than 3 years. After I spoke with dealer, they said that the new transmission does not get an additional warranty other that the end of the extended warranty( 7yrs 9 months or 105k). Very disappointed in the service. You would expect a new tranny to last more that 3 years especially with no towing and all the regular service being done. Now they want $3300.00 for a new one. I always thought that Hondas were reliable but I guess that was a mistake. I have bought my last Honda.

Penny,
I have been reading your threads about the Odyssey transmission problems. We have a 2000 model with 109,000 miles. We are original owners. The transmission just went out. I took the car in at about the 5 year mark because it was downshifting oddly when I went down hills. The dealer said there were no problems. We have done all the required maintainence but not all at the dealer. What do I do? Dealer wants 3,500.00 to fix the car. Are we entitled to have the dealer fix the car at a reduced rate or for free? Haven't called Honda Corporation yet.
