2003 Honda Odyssey Transmission Problems

I just paid $1405 to have my tranmission replaced.  I had to pay for the transmission labor and the parts and labor on two engine mounts. Honda paid for the tranmission and a ECM?  Then I had the pleasure of trying to be guilted into saying I was satisfied with my outcome since the manager didn't want the department to have any dissatisfied customers!

I have a 2000 Odyssey and have already put in 3 transmissions -- 1 from the recall and 2 I paid for.  Can you send me the info on the class action suit for the 2000 model?

I'm having the same problem with my 2000 Honda Odyssey.  I brought it to the Honda service dealer and was told that because I am 5 months and 11,0000 miles out of my warranty, it would cost me $2000 to get it fixed.  They told me the actual cost would be $4000, but would be willing to credit the $2000, so that I would only have to pay half.  On top of this, I brought my vehicle in for service only one month before because the check engine light came on and the service dealer told me the catalytic converter needed to be replaced.  I had them replace it along with some other minor problems, and forked over $2000 for that.  I called American Honda Motor and they told me that unfortunately because I'm out of the extended warranty, I would have to bear the costs of getting the transmission problem fixed.  They told me the problem with the transmission was not in fact a "recall" but an extended warranty (although Honda lists it on the American Honda Motor's website under "Recalls".  I am definitely interested in getting added to the class action lawsuit and would appreciate whatever information you would be willing to share.  Thanks.

The attorney whom is dealing with the matter is Jared STamell in NY, NY, his telephone number is 212-566-4356.  He also was involved in the previous Class Action against Honda (1999-2001 Odyssey's).

Let me know if you need anything further.

I have had the same issue on a 2002 Odyssey (64k miles).  The transmission started to slip and the 'check engine' light went on.  We took it to the dealer who told us the engine control module (the computer) and the transmission needed to be replaced.  The cost was over $4,000!  However, after contacting Honda they offered to pay 75% for “goodwill.”  I thought that this did not make any sense, this is clearly a quality issue and should covered per the Honda quality recall from 2004. It appears that Honda has had an ongoing challenge with their transmissions failing from 1999 thru the present models. After considering my request that they cover 100% Honda did the following:
- they REVOKED their offer to pay 75%
- they indicated the cost to me now would be over $5,000 (something about non-warranty parts being more expensive, which makes no sense since they said it was not warrantied)
- The only consideration they did provide was $3,000 credit to a new Honda, which they would not put in writing.
- To top off this event, the dealer had the audacity to offer me $3k for a car with a bluebook of over $12,000!

Now I have to pay $4k (not at the dealer) to fix Honda’s quality issue.

Rest assured I will sell the car, and NEVER buy another Honda (this was my 12th).  Their demeanor, approach and lack of accountability for this SAFETY issue is appalling.  My family is not safe in a Honda automobile.

I have a 2000 Honda Odyssey with 103,000 miles and now my transmission is out.  I have been taking it in to Honda for the past year telling then when it goes in gear it slams. I had 83,781 miles back 02/07. Now my warranty is up 3 months ago.  I took it in on the 15th of may and almost had a accident with my kids in the car. It just jumped in second gear and burned out. Now the guy calls me telling me that Honda will do a 50/50. I have been taken my van before the warranty was up for the problem and they didn't want to fix it. Now they want me to pay $1,400.00 out of my pocket that is not fair. I can't pay that i have a family to support. If anybody is going to do something with Honda I am in 100% Know i am paying for a rental car that is costed me I hope somebody does something fast.

We are starting the second Class  Action Lawsuit.  Honda needs to held accountable for intentionally selling vehicles that they know are unsafe, given their history of transmission problems.  Please contact me if you are interested in joining.

Is the new class action lawsuit you're starting involving the 2003 Hondas only?  I called the lawyer but never received a call back from him.  I left message with his secretary or receptionist.  I was told I'm part of the previous class against Honda and unfortunately, my extended warranty is up.

Yes, he has drafted the Notice, the first step.  If we unite, we can force Honda to finally accept accountability and fix the problem.

Mine is an 2002, we are the second generation of owners the 2000-2004's, not sure who else is involved.  But, I assume this is a worldwide issue with Honda, the more the merrier.

How can we find out if we can be in the lawsuit. I have a 2000 with 103,000 miles and i am the not the orginal owner. What do i do? My van is at the dealer now and they are giving me 30day to tell them to fix it or leave it but i have to pay about $1,400.00 when i have been taking it in before the warranty was up.
