What the hell is that?

They redid the unusual looking grill and toned down the standing straight up styling  and then the designers did THIS to the outside of the Focus?!!!

Now,they do have a psuedo performance model with a big wing in black that almost looks ownable but this standard model Focus LOOKS LIKE IT WAS DESIGNED IN 1968 IN EAST GERMANY!!!

LOL!!!

I'll probably be dead wrong,Ford will probably sell a million of these hideously lame looking Focus's but even with a rebate,a price cut and zero percent ten year financing,I'd ride a bike before I ever bought one of these cars.

Wow! FORD!!! What were you thinking????

Nice chrome fake grill vent on the side by the way.

LOL!!!!!!

o.K.,O.K.,Ford,I have always been a great fan of your cars but here's what I see wrong with that restyle.

The actual shape of the outside of the car is fine-modern,efficient,attractive.

But the shape of the lights both front and rear is wrong, the grill is wrong, the side vent looking chrome piece is simply TRASH.

I would only ask that you look at your own Ford Fusion to see everything that is right about a vehicle redesign.

Every line, every chrtome piece on the Fusion looks like it was designed in from the start.

Extremely attractive current design that shows Ford designers can definitely get it right.

But the redesign of the outside of the Focus looks awful,in my opinion.

Ford,you can DEFINITELY DO BETTER.

Completely agree.

The "redesign" of the Focus is absolutely hideous, managing to mash together a wide variety of current styling cliches while at the same time eliminating the quirky originality of the first design.

Why Ford can't send us Americans its European Focus- a car that looks fantastic AND performs well- is beyond me.  But then I can't understand why we don't get the Mondeo either, which is also an exceptional car.

Just as Ford renamed the Five Hundred to the Taurus, I petition that Ford renames the Focus: the Fugly.

It's true that beauty is in the eye of the beholder but this new Focus..arghhh. The reason why this Focus doesn't do much for us esthetically is because its a low cost car and so they probably spent less time on its design and development since their return is less.  Its a shame, in an era where car manufacturers are offering more and more investment in their vehicles, Ford won't push those bean counters away and give the public what they want. Personal cars - something they're real proud of driving. Not something just taking them to and fro. I can almost feel Ford's pain when they put something out like this that will get negative reactions and lower car sales...

As if the Focus couldn't get worse looking, Ford decided to show us how much they enjoy red ink! Ford can and has done much better than this, just look at the reskinned '08 Euro Focus for a case point. At least GM is starting to get smart and sending us some Euro love (via Saturn). Ford listen up: join the bandwagon!

WHY DOES'NT FORD USE THE EURO STYLED FORDS?

You'd think it would be cheaper to just have one style(GREAT STYLE)Ford model Focus!

Agree!
The new US Focus is ugly, ugly nothing but UGLY!
I don't understand why Ford uses its resources to design this TRASH instead of just simply making the europe Focus here.
No wonder Ford is deeply in red!

I bought the base 2-dr coupe S model.  It does NOT have the fake chrome side vents behind the front fenders, that seem to throw you all into such apoplexy.  Those fake chrome side vents are only on the higher grade SE and SES models.  Exterior styling is always a matter of personal taste.  I thought the old Focus (2007 and earlier) were ugly.  I like the new design.

Who else makes a 2-door AMERICAN economy car nowadays?  Nobody except the Chevy Cobalt.  You think THAT warmed-over Cavalier looks better?  I test drove both, and the new Focus had more zip and better handling, perhaps because the new base Focus is over 400 pounds lighter than the base Cobalt LS.  The manual transmission on the new Focus is superb, compared to the Cobalt.

So if you want an AMERICAN 2-door economy coupe, what choice do you have?  There are 4-doors up the ying-yang,-- but no 2-doors.  It's Focus vs Cobalt.

The Saturn Astra 2-door is $3000 more expensive and not availabe until Jan 2008, and it's advance reviews are pretty poor.  But it's European styling!!!!

Guess I'm in the minority here, 'cause even though you couldn't call it sexy, it looks better that it has in years.

I generally cheer on the American car companies. I want them to succeed even though I think most of their products are garbage. But (as usual) just as Ford takes one step forward with one thing, it takes two backward with another. It is no wonder that they are in such crisis. When I see crap like the new Focus it makes me actually want to see them fail. Do you believe people actually got paid to design this thing?

Too many designers not enough drivers are playing cars with their friends. How come Americans put up with crap for so long? Maybe Toyota taking over GM and Ford in sales might get some execs to pull their heads out of the tailpipe and start bringing to the USA what euro drivers have had for a while. FUN CARS TO DRIVE!

Ford has a new exterior that is simply awesome, ready to go.

It's called the Verve concept and it looks fantastic.

I can guarantee you that if Ford drags their axx putting that concept vehicle into circulation as the new Focus that Hyundai,Kia or Dawoo will make a car that looks exactly like it and steal that market from Ford.

Add another vote to the new Focus looking like garbage. The last generation "late cycle" makeover was nice to me. The revised headlights looked more elegant and cleaner than the early model years. But yeah... now the Focus looks like a high-school geometry class project.

Folks, just read Jamie Kitman's latest editorial. According to him, Ford cannot afford to build or ship the Euro Focus here. How they can afford NOT to, I don't know. So Ford continues to sell us junk Foci while Europe gets the good ones. And JK is not kidding. I was in the UK in the mid-1990's and rented a Ford Escort. The little car really impressed me. I could not believe how far apart that car was from the US Escort. We really have been duped.
But as long as people keep buying the US Focus, what incentive does Ford have to send us the superior Euro Focus? Exactly.

I saw that information too.

Something along the lines tha Ford was so in debt that they had to sell junk bonds to finance what they have on the market right now.

The new Focus is selling at the lowest prices of any save the cheapest Korean cars right now in the weekend sales papers.

At those prices, the outer look of the car takes a backseat to the fact that it's basic transportation that has a peppy engine, gets great gas mileage and is cheap to buy.

Ford actually does build a nice looking and roomy econobox- it's called the Mazda 3.  Ford long ago turned it's back on anyone that didn't want a truck or a Mustang in the United States (I do own a Ranger).  For fun, I'll keep my 99 Miata.  For the family, I'll drive my 04 Passat.  For home repair and yardwork, I'll drive a Ford.
