I am on the fence about these two cars.  Any help is greatly appreciated!!!

The 2004 Passat has 27,500 miles, auto, leather, 1.8T, 2WD, $15,900.
The Legacy has 29,000 miles, auto, cloth seats, 4 cylinder, AWD, $16,980.

Please post any and all opinions you have about this.  Thank you again for all of your help!  You guys and gals are the experts!!  Grin

My boss has a 2004 Passat. That is the old VW platform which had many small issues (windows that stop working, electrical issue, sludge issues with the 1.8 etc.)The Legacy on the other hand was a brand new platform in 2005. I own a 2005 Legact GT with 36K on it and have not had a problem to speak of, my friend just turned 100K on his Subaru and lets just say he has not kept the best care of the car and has not had a issue. AWD is always better than FWD except you will pay a small penalty at the pump. If you plan on keeping the car for a long time I would buy the Subi.

I'd go with the Legacy as long as it DOES NOT have the turbo motor in it.

Expect a non-turbo car to be slower then a turbo but then you can run a non-turbo car on regular gas-all turbo cars require premium and those used turbo cars that have been run on regular can easily have damaged motors becasue of the use of regular gas.

If it has a turbo motor it's almost a toss up.

If you can get reliable ones, they are both outstanding cars with the edge going to the Subaru in the snow states and the edge going to the Passat only slightly for gas mileage.
