Those idiots in Detroit think we'll keep buying their junk when they are still in cahoots with the oil companies, stalling on the electrics until the oil companies figure out how to own the hydrogen ditribution for fuel cells. And all they can figure to do with hybrids is to put them in the biggest gas guzzlers possible and still get terrible gas mileage when they should be making reasonably powered high mileage small and mid sized cars. Oh, I get it. Stiffing us on the price of a big car is very important to them while they keep shipping our jobs overseas. I guess we'll just have to keep buying foriegn and sending the money directly overseas ourselves.

Saw the HYBRID TAHOE ads and shook your head at them, huh?
Does seem a bit odd to put Hybrid on those huge trucks... the sheer weight will mean the gas engine is required most of the time. Heck that's true of the Prius if you want to leave a light with the rest of the pack.
Hybrids are cool technology, but they aren't the second-coming of cars. In spite of what you hear.

just drove the Prius the other day. I was actually more impressed with the handling and the actual ride. Very smooth. The technology is equally as impressive. I'm waiting till some of the SUV's come with a standard of 35mpg. I hope this is not just wishful thinking. Also, I've heard rumors of the 2009 prius doing an astounding 80mpg and an new design. Can anyone confirm this?

The sad thing about the hybrids coming out of GM is that the gas mileage advantage is the same as if you bought the smallest motor in the line.
So why not just buy the smallest motor in the line?
Toyota's Prius remains THE best Hybrid to buy if you want the best Hybrid technology has to offer.

Biodiesel is the way to go. Although you do not get as good of mileage the fuel is much cheaper and worth it.

Interesting,
Hybrids name on any car sells, just look at the pitiful Toyota shoebox to see how much of a rip off it is. Here you pay a premium, have to wait months, will never see return on investment, and yet they sell out production when it only gets 45 mpg. Heck, my BMW gets 36 mpg highway and it is a full size car, so talk about scams, the current hybrids are a huge rip off.

When the engine technology exists in Europe to get 37 mpg (highway) in an Opel Antara (Saturn VUE) 4wd SUV, why in the world is GM pursuing two-mode hybrid technology in their Saturn VUE which incidentally is only available in F(front)WD?
Is GM's decision to not bring over the 4WD/AWD 2.0 turbodiesel based on the Euro:US$ exchange rate? Is it too expensive to modify this powerplant to meet EPA specs? Or does GM think we Americans are stupid enough to buy into their FWD only two-mode hybrid?
Last year, I sent Bob Lutz a very considerate request, via the post, to consider bringing over the Antara's turbodiesel. To date, I've not received a reply from the architect of GM's global transformation.

Woops. How bout the exchange rate between the Korean Won and our US$? After further study, we find that the Antara and turbodiesel are made in Korea.

I'm completely in agreement with cycleupperleft. Where the hell are our diesels?! I get almost as angry over this as I do over stupid modern vehicle designs.
I don't get it, Europeans have been driving diesel powered cars for decades, but the only vehicles we've been able to get equipped with oil burners are huge trucks and the occasional car like the VW Jetta, which, incidentally, they stopped importing after only a couple years. WTF! I'm sick of the arguments that diesels are bad for the environment. What a load of bull feces. Modern diesels are just as clean as petrol engines. In fact, I think they're better: diesel exhaust is heavier and tends to stick to the ground, whereas petrol exhaust goes up in the sky and contributes to global warming. And hybrids are the worst- they're slow, they get significantly lower real mileage than their EPA estimates, and the production of their batteries is really bad for the environment, which is something I'd bet most owners have never thought about.
At least there seems to be hope on the horizon. Nearly every European manufacturer is readying diesel cars for the States. Even Acura is planning to offer the next TSX with a diesel. Now if only the boys in Detroit could stop yammering about hybrid Tahoes and ethanol and pull their heads out of their asses, we might really be on a roll.

Well as I see it a Hybrid still can not pull a very large trailer to serfice my needs. I did some checking on hybrids and the biggest towing for under $50,000 was a Toyota and it still could not tow as much with the fuel economy 2mpg better than my all gas. So hybrids just would not fix the problem, no one thing will. So until the hybrids get the towing I need are come down in pricce say about $20,000 I will never buy one.
