I always enjoy lists like this. This one was great, too. That being said:
Nissan Z -any generation, but I'd probably pick the original 1970, since it proved to the world (except AUTOMOBILE MAGAZINE, apparently) that Japan could build enthusiast cars.
Along the same lines, the Honda Civic Si should be on here, too. So much fun to drive and stands alongside the excellent VW GTI as an enthusiast icon in an affordable price range. The Civic in general practically gave birth to the tuner hobby.
And yes, the NSX is a no-brainer for at least one list.

Very sound lists, probably the best attempt at it in a while.

Here is what Automobile Magazine should include:
Driver's Cars: Ariel Atom (Track car on Jenny Craig) Any Maybach (A driver's AND passenger's car)
Technologically Marvelous: Nissan 300ZX TT (In 1989/90, there is no match in technology) Amphicar (1960's first and only amphibious production car)
Supercars: Koenigsegg CCR/CCX (Broke McLaren F1 top speed) Pagani Zonda F (If the Carrera GT is there, then include this) Saleen S7 (True American supercar) SSC Ultimate Aero (Horsepower record/top speed record/slalom record)
Racing Cars: Corvette C5R/Z06R (Dominated & won many many races)
Icons: DeLorean DMC (An icon to the Future!) Datsun 240Z (Japanese "Godfather") Land Rover Range Rover (Similar to Jeep) H1 Hummer (Replaces Jeep Cherokee) Dodge Viper (American muscle with poison)
What to remove? Ford F-150 (American pickups are enough) Jeep Cherokee (Jeep Wrangler is enough) BMW 3-Series (3-series & M3 both together in icons?) Porsche Cayman S (Boxter with roof) Acura Integra Type-R (Remove or replace this with a Nissan Skyline)
PS. I'm glad they've included Duesenberg's! Finally! Also, I'm not sure what is their definition of a "Driver's car", because many of those aren't practical on the road, but more practical on the track.

I am sorry, but any automotive ICON list that does not include the 1964 GTO is seriously lacking. It is THE car that started the muscle car craze...

Missing - THE FIAT/Pininfarnia affordable sport car. The FIAT 124/2000 Spider. After 28 years mine is still, Affordable Great lines, simple, effective design Great driver's car. And it has/had a crossflow, aluminum head, belt driven DOHC 4 cyl, 5spd, 4 wheel disc brakes starting back in 1967!!
If only GM, Ford, Saturn or heaven forbid, Fiat would bring it back and keep the styling without get the 'big buttitis' we find in all the modern 'classics'
I love my 1980 1995cc Bosch injected classic. I would buy a new one if they built it with modern materials nad kept all the high tech crap out and the big old back end off the design.
