In the fall of 2005 I was traveling in Spain and caught multiple glimpses of the FORD Fiesta.  I loved that little vehicle and I wish that it would be brought to the US!  Does anyone out there have any hopefull news for me?

I don't trust Wikipedia at all, but this is all I could scrounge up on the Fiesta coming to our shores. It's probably just speculation, so I wouldn't get my hopes up just yet.

The Mark 8 Fiesta is intended to be released in March 2008. It is expected to be slightly larger than the current Mark 7 car, as it will use the new Ford B2xx platform that will also go into the Mazda Demio replacement and possibly a new small Volvo. The Fiesta will also be sold in North America starting mid 2009 as a 2010 model.

I remember reading an article about small hatchbacks that we can't get here in America (by Sam Smith).  It featured a Renault, a Skoda, and the awesome Fiesta ST.  Unfortunately, we will not be getting this Fiesta.  Ford is about to redesign the Fiesta, and stated that America's version will be a four door notchback, with no diesel engines available.  It's going to be bigger than the Euro version that Sam drove, and I'm willing to bet it's going to be as ugly as our new Focus.
I swear, if Ford doesn't get its act together, send us vehicles as good as the ones it sells in Europe, and take back a piece of the American market, it's going to be in deep ***

why would you drive a fiesta?  I doubt its coming back, its just another version of the escort, and those aren't around anymore, it wouldn't make any sense.

Fiesta is a perfectly good car name, so why not attach it to a perfectly good NEW car? Read our Geneva coverage. NEW Fiesta is very cool. And it's coming to the US in 2010. Late, right? Right. It takes two years to make an existing car saleable in the US and the guys in charge of deciding what products should wear the blue oval for the foreseeable future--that would be Bill Ford, Alan Mullaly, Jim Farley, and Derrick Kuzak (three of whom are relatively new in this decision-making process)--have tapped the Euro Fiesta. It makes perfect sense.--Jean

What's your take then on the Ford Focus Coupe-Cabriolet not making it here? The guys at The Car Connection were writing about it:

Ford knows this sucks, but the two product cycles (lame-o U.S. Focus and too-sweet Euro Focus) are out of synch. Can't throwover this new US Focus until next round, at which point there will be ONE for all and ALL for one. And it will be the good one, we are promised.

Ford did the right thing by bringing the first generation Fiesta to the US market (around 1980).  They should have chosen the European Fiesta over the Festiva (Kia Pride) when they re-entered the subcompact market in '87.

The Ford Focus Coupe-Cabriolet is pretty sweet. I would get one of them for sure if they came to the US. With the gas prices being as high as they are and getting higher, Ford should really make a push in the Sub-Compact market.
