Honda has had an FCX vehicle for a while now. Doesn't it seem reasonable/feasible that they should be able to replace the Hydrogen Fuel Cell with a gasoline or diesel engine until such time as Hydrogen is feasible?
Seems to me that this would allow Honda to be able to compete with the Volt and actually be able to come to market sooner since they don't need to design the vehicle. Having multiple choices for electric generation seems like a very smart business plan on GM's part and I'm surprised that I haven't heard about others doing their own take-off on this.
Has anyone heard any speculation on this?

It's not a bad idea, but hydrogen won't be feasible anytime in the near future for the average consumer, meaning the FCX will look severely outdated when hydrogen finally has it's day.

I definitely agree that Hydrogen is not something that will be useful anytime in the near future. That's why I think Honda should take their FCX vehicle and make it available with alternative forms of electric generation; e.g., small turbo'd ICE/Diesel engine choices.
Their vehicle certainly looks much more futuristic and aerodynamic than the one being proposed by GM!

Ah, my bad. I read your original post wrong. I thought you meant that they should re-release the FCX design when hydrogen does become feasible. I agree though, an alternative electric motor would be a great option.
Both cars look fantastic to me. I would gladly drive either one. But if I had to make a choice based on looks alone, I would chose the Volt, simply because it looks like it has sporting pretensions. The FCX is too luxurious for my tastes.
