Now that Infiniti will be coming out with the EX35, I would expect that the next iteration of the FX will utilize the larger 3.7 liter engine from the G37 coupe.  Hopefully this will be coming out in 2008, which I'm also hoping will be the redesign timeframe of the updated FX (although I haven't found any details yet).
