The Scirocco is not coming to the U.S. I'm so disappointed! Are you going to miss it as much as I am, or do you think it was a wise decision?

I think it was a terrible decision. Why is it that cars Americans would probably buy (like the Mondeo and Scirocco) don't make it to the States?

I personally loved the look of the Scirocco (especially in green) and would have considered buying one in the future.

I feel like Volkswagen didn't consider the fact that it is possible for more than one of its cars to appeal to enthusiasts. I mean, Porsche built the Cayman, which offers similar performance to the 911. But both models are selling. They each have their niche. It could be the same for VW.

I think you're right. VW probably figured the Rabbit and Scirocco were too closely related in performance/functionality. However, the Scirocco is radically different than anything else on the road as far as appearance goes, while the Rabbit is more conservative looking. Each car has it's own niche in my mind.

This coming around from the old chicken running around without a head corporation doesn't surprise me 1 bit.  Hey Vdub why don't you just lay one more SUV on us or huge 4 door sedan, just to confuse consumers ever more about what Vdub is all about.

This is #*#@ing retarded!!! Who is running VW?!??!?! They "owned" the cutting edge pocket rocket compact with the Mark I and Mark II Scirocco's as well as the FOREVER reign of the GTi/GLi for years. I have a 88 Scirocco that had a 0-60 FROM THE FACTORY of 7.8 sec.'s out of a 123 HP 16v 1.8L 4-banger, with handling performance that was unbelievable. It took YEARS for a PRODUCTION 4 cyl. (from ANY car company) to catch up to that FACTORY spec. performance (in a like price range). These late 70's, 80's, and early 90's mid-priced, EXTREMELY well built cars are still out there runnung SCCA and similar events all over the world. I have over 250K on the ORIGINAL block and have modified this car to run short track events. These cars are/were wonderful. The last decade has seen the GTi and GLi badge tarnished by the "softening" of the specs. Slow (by market comparison) 0-60 times, softer suspensions, and TOO MANY BELLS AND WHISTLES are leading to a generic VW brand. The loyalty is gone. I bought the 14th Jetta Wagon to come over to the states. I traded it in and got a Mini Coop S JCW after 3 "limp-home" glitches in the Dub and the SAD performance of this "sporty Euro-wagon".
THE POINT TO THIS RANT:
WHERE IS MY NEW SCIROCCO!?!??!?!
This was (I hoped) the come back of a legend. Stripped down, slick, POWER, and PERFORMANCE!!! Back to the land of the Honda/Acura killer!!! Something to put German engineering back on the track (why do you think I bought the Mini JCW, designed by the German BMW M guys?!?!?!).
I had already planned on trading this WELL BUILT Mini in on the Scirocco (if it was as "built" as I hoped it would be), but I guess I'll just drop a pulley, bump the intercooler and go tear up a couple R32's just to make VW look even more stuck in the "mud".
Sad, sad, sad,.....

I'm broke as a bone. That said, I would also like to state that, if the Scirocco made it to the United States, I would have to beg, borrow, trade, and steal for it. V dub- bring the Scirocco stateside! Please

The Scirocco is the only car I ever really loved.  I am trying to hold out for its return but meanwhile I have to drive something.
I loved my 1988 16-valve.
There seems to be no monetary incentive to curtail production of SUVs.  What gives with curtailing the introduction of cool cars?

VW is in the a situation where they are trying to maximize their return on every unit.

Their cars are designed and built everywhere.

The company has had some really bad financial news of late and don't expect them to push special models that don't get an immediate market response.

I am still baffled why they did'nt bring the redesigned (2nd generation)VW Van to the U.S. market but I think the cost to sell it might have been too high.

Same here, best car I ever owned. I visited a V-dub dealer with it a few years ago to look at VR6 Jetta's. A very large and very German salesman saw it and said, "Zat is zeh best cah volksvaagen evah made." He was right. The people running VW are out of their minds.

With a V6 AWD model I doubt they could build enough of them to satisfy North American demand. My guess is that the slow acceptance of the Audi A3 is scaring them. But lets face it... that's an ugly car. (Drives great though.) If the street model looks anything like the IROC concept, that won't be a problem for the 'rocco.

I had a '79 VW Scirocco.  It was so fun to drive.  I loved it, but had to sell it.  I always wanted to see what VW could do with an iconic car such as the Scirocco. But as with everything else, us North American fans will not get the chance to own it.  Too bad, because if I'm not mistaken the R32 wasn't coming here, but it did.  Maybe if enough people would let VW know it would come here stateside.  We can only hope!!!

Maybe they are afraid about the outcome of sales, with what's happening right now in the Car industry's declining sales, maybe they are a little bit of alarm about the figure result.

I usually like Volkswagen, but in this case, I will not hesitate to say that they are acting like total *** morons.
No Scirocco?  WTF!  I know why: the bean counters at VW think that it'll sabotage sales of the GTI.  As always, it comes down to the bottom line.  What a shame.
The IROC concept car was incredible, and I was willing to make it my first new car, especially if it had a more potent turbo 4 banger than the GTI, or, even better, a VR6.
I think VW should can the Eos (why anyone would pay BMW 3 series money for that thing is beyond me) and send us the Scirocco instead.  Heck, maybe they could even make the Scirocco our next GTI.
