Buick dealers don't want rear-wheel-drive?

Rick Wagoner recently met with a group of Buick dealers to gauge interest in a Buick version of the rear-drive Pontiac G8, and to our surprise, the reply was a resounding "no." Dealers thought that such a car would cannibalize Lucerne sales. So what, I ask, is the problem with that? Lose a few of those cars to open up a whole new segment of the market? How stupid can these dealers be? Maybe its at the dealer level that GM is hurting. Rick says he'll keep the new vehicle on the table for discussion. Build it and call it Electra.

Rawr!

Clueless dealers will likely soon join the majority of Buick’s customers who are already taking pleasure in their retirement.  Wagoner is rightfully concerned about Buick winning younger customers very soon and that’ll require much more than yearly revisions to portholes and the bizarro waterfall grilles affixed to its current horde of unremarkable sedans.  Holden kindly whipped together several tantalizing varieties of automotive salvation for America’s GM stores.  Why aren’t Buick dealers clamoring for a helping of VE Commodore and WM Caprice?  Do any of these guys even like cars?  I’d love to believe Tiger might actually choose a Buick but he was only 12 the last time they built one worth his consideration.
