After denying that it would happen, Porsche has released a base model Cayman coupe, priced at just under $50,000. Was this a good move for the German brand? Should it be looking downmarket like this or will this move be damaging to the Porsche image?

I don't like it.  Isn't that what they did with the Boxster?

I think Porsche really knows what they're doing right now. While this move dilutes their brand identity just a bit, it also allows more enthusiasts to discover how amazing the cars Porsche builds are. I had a chance to ride in a Cayman S a short while ago, and it was the most well-balanced car I'd ever ridden in. I wouldn't mind sacrificing a little horsepower and some creature comforts if it means getting one of these babies for that much cheaper. And last I checked, the Boxster was doing pretty darn well, too.

A fantastic car! I drove it personally and it rides well, it handles well and has lots of power. Just because it looks like a boxster or 911 doesnt make it a bad car.

You cannot deny that the Boxster gave Porsche what it sorley needed.

A mass appeal car that was PROFITABLE for them.

The Cayman looks to be another car that will help Porsche stay in business.

Good thing for them.
