Ford has announced that while the Mazda 2 may not come here as a Mazda, but it will come wearing the blue oval. Are Ford buyers ready for a subcompact? And more importantly, will it have a Fusion grille, too?

What do you think they'll call this thing? I think it'll be the Escort.

I hope Mazda green lights it.  Not that I'd go right out and buy it, although I once was a GLC Sport owner. It's just that I don't see any really small entry level cars in Mazda's lineup now.

It looks like fun little car, they should bring back the pinto name.  Haha, that'd be sweet

They might as well bring back the Edsel nameplate if they have the guts to bring back Pinto.  Edsel might work better than Pinto actually.  Make a nice looking Edsel and you're over the hill.  While exploding gas tanks will always be on your mind when thinking about Pintos.

Ford desperately needs some good news, but the recent "update" of the US market Focus shows exactly the lack of bravery and imagination that has put Ford in its dark place. No subcompact Ford has ever been worth the corn chips its seats were stuffed with, so obviously the car would need a fresh new name. By "name" I mean name, not ennui-inducing-series-of-vaguely-sporty-sounding-numbers-and/or-letters.
Look at the gorgeous names with which some cars have been blessed. Miata. Corrado. Khamsin. Muira. Europa. Countach. Bora.
Oh yes, and screwing a Fusion grill onto the front of Mazda's sweet little seedpod of a car is not going to win hearts. The car would have to be rebodied to fit the modern Ford aesthetic.
I've invented a new cleaning product. It removes spit from Hummers.

I could live with the Escort name, but there better be a hot SVT or RS model.  If Ford only builds it as an econo-box with out a hot model, then leave it to Mazda and the boys at MazdaSpeed.

With Ford digging in it's old name plate bin, it's a wonder they haven't tried sticking Granada or Fairmont on something yet.

Forget the *** 3-bar grill FORD!!!

Not a bad looking car.

Ford needs the market exposure to draw people to it's lots.

BRING IT.

And don't put an old name on it-it's new to America-give it a new name.

I think it should be called the "Dannielynn".  If it is successful, at least 2 companies will claim to be the father: Ford and Mazda...

Finally!  Being a Ford salesperson, I've been telling people for years that they needed a b-segment car.  Just please don't call it an Escort. Let's just hope it's a fun to drive compact with a sport model that will drive off the lot for around $12,000.  Find a name that inspires an emotion to own it, because the buyers of those cars will be first time buyers, teenagers, or credit challenged consumers.  "Edge" would have been perfect but they already used that one, so something along the lines of "Energy", "Pulse", or "Apex" would be better than Escort
