Ahh, there it is,. a silly little checkbox has to be chosen, even if you choose reply directly from a user's message.

This is going to be a long one.
We bought an Audi TT Roadster Quattro new in 2001. We were one of the first ones in our city to have one. This replaced our Accura GSX which we flipped and sold after the lease expired (it had depreciated less than the lease had stipulated - we pulled a profit of over US$ 3K!)
At first - turbo bypass valve failed (warranty job). Then water sensor probe failed (non-warranty). Then tires blew out (Bridgestones). There was a class action law suit on the tires - Audi replaced them. Audi service told us we needed new brake disks at 20,000 miles (WOW!), non warranty. Skipped this and just had them put in pads. Then the instrument cluster started failing (out of warranty). There is another class action law suit on this matter. Then central locking unit failed - water damage - out of warranty. The drain holes for the convertible top were clogged (never happened on my Miata).
Then I took it in to a non-dealer for an oil change. He found a ball bearing from the front wheel bearings sitting inside the wheel housing. Two new front wheel hub assemblies at 30,000 miles - no warranty. Another 1K.
At this point the car is just over six years old, with 33,000 miles. Windshield gets stress crack - dealer puts in new windshield. He tells me about timing belt issue - need to replace every five years now or every 50,000 miles, since they are failing prematurely. Priced at another $1,900 at the dealership.
Cracked front sway bar also diagnosed by the dealership - another 1k.
At this point I've had it. I look at my tool collection, I look at my past experience with working on cars, I look at the price of parts, and I do the timing belt, or rather engine front end (belt, water pump, tensioners, seals, the whole deal) myself one weekend ($500 in parts & special tools). So now I get familiar with the car, and start tearing it apart. Front suspension bushings collapsed - only $18 in parts, takes 2 hours in an afternoon. Sway bar - only $140 part, five hours to do it (lower subframe from vehicle! Did it.) Brake disks - I find ones that are slotted and last 50,000 miles - finally replaced the disks.
Net result - the car is like new. Dealership tells me I am the only one they know who did their own timing belt. Parts guy at the dealership tells me I am a rare retail customer. Timing belt gave it new pep. Suspension overhaul stiffened it up.
So here is the inventory of work that was done, and the inventory of class action suit notices we have received:
Bypass valve Temperature sensor Front boots and bearing assembly Stress crack windshield (probably caused by improper lifting by repair facility) Premature tire blowouts Premature brake disk wear Cracking of sway bar (new part redesigned to prevent this - was systemic) Premature engine front end (timing belt, tensioner, water pump, cam seal) Central locking system brain box replacement Instruments dash board Collapsed rubber bushings on front struts
The car now has a whopping 34,500 MILES!
Class action law suits:
Tires Instrument cluster Timing Belt
Unfixable problem: Rear wheel alignment (shop tells me this is also systemic)
I decided to keep the car for only one reason - once it's all in good shape, it handles like a dream. Also, the fit and finish of the exterior and interior really is very, very good. I am German, I am from Stuttgart, and I am also keeping a W126 Mercedes alive (this car is one of the best cars ever built). But here is my final word on Audi: they are beautiful, they handle well, and they fall apart. Audi is the Jaguar of Germany!!!
