Is the GT500 THAT Great?

Upon recieving July's issue, I read the GT article by Don, and either he is terribly mis-informed, or just hankering to pick a fight with that bigger bouncer known as the Vette.

In the opening paragraph, stating that the new GT500 is possible of "spanking" the Vette on the strips, with it's 500 HP near redline, the Vette delivers 400 or 505 about 1000 from redline. I have NO clue which  Vette he has in mind, because the GTO, that runs the low-class-Vette's engine, LS2, still has better times, full stock mind you, then this new Shelby.

Now, the GTO is heavier, and less aerodynamic than the Corvette, and even then, what about the Z06 from 05 running mid 12's, and the 06 running mid 11's... I don't see where Don is getting this from.

Sorry, I'm just a little disgruntled about seeing these misconstrued facts poisening my society. I'm 17, and own an 06 GTO, and I know fully well what it's capable of. While the 500 GT might full well be able to own up on a circuit, I fully doubt its potentials against a Corvette. Running a GTO against the Shelby, it would come down to drivers, but even then, the GTO has a tenth second on the Shelby, which isn't much.

The Shelby is a GREAT car, and Ford is doing great, just some of us GM fans are hoping to see the hihger performing cars finally get some sparkle.

Thank you for your time, and I just want the truth to be out, and for GM to still have a chance without going out. They're all great companies, just give them a little more luster.

I am in the think too that the GT500's performance possibilities are a bot over stated as previously mentioned....not only the Z06 will send it home looking for mommy, the new and improved (rumored) Z07 with a few more inches a supercharger and 145 extra Ponies to shove it down the 1320 will definetely (Literally) blow the doors off that steel Phoney Pony.....and be it mentioned that Chevrolet built all the above in house...and didn't rely on outsources such as the estute Mr (Sensei) Caroll Shelby to build it for them....if you want to look at a factory authorized and warrantied by "The General" supercar capable to rip some material off the 500...look to Callaway...I am sure you will find a Plethora of varied optioned Corvettes to put said GT in the rear view faster than stink....I am stoked that Ford Motor Company has had the moxy to put a muscle car back on the face of it's format.....but did it really have to go back 30 years for a body style and recruit an aged (and evil ) genius to prepare them something that still comes up short in the performance department (oh...and if the criteria for a muscle car is being able to sport a double date, the only thing I can see desirable is the possibility of more than one woman in the car with me.....otherwise, if I am gonna buy a car with a back seat...I can only visualise a minivan, or some other sort of grocery getter...(and I never have to worry about giving the whole party a ride home) )

i know it is a little off topic but shelby 500s are running deep in the 10s with bolt ons and drag slicks.

NO.

The Vette trumps every domestic car AND most imports with it's unrivaled race bred perfection.

Only Audi and Ferrai fit into the same category as the Vette today.

Shelby's today are mostly a Ford styling exercise made only to *** out the Shelby legacy.
