We gave the Mercedes-Benz our top spot in a recent test for the world;s best sport sedan, in part due to the BMW's disappointing SMG transmission and in part due to how awesome the Benz is. Which one of these three would you *** Or did we not even consider your pick in this test? And when is a lot of horsepower too much? Tell us what you think of these three cars.

I do not own any of the three cars mentioned above, but, driving in the U.S. most of my driving occurs in the city and the speed limits are double digits, not triple. So in that case, 200 horsepower is adequate, 300 is rocket-powered and 400+ is overkill. If a person must feel the rush of a 400+ horsepower sedan then they should use these cars at the track. Which, in that case, 400+ horsepower is great but a 4000+ pound curb weight would disqualify these vehicles from being truly "sporty". In the end, I'd have the Merc. Benz seems to be concerned again with quality, and the first true AMG engine is persuasive.

I have a few things to say here....firstly im from ireland which is in europe. In europe we have these strange bendy things called CORNERS!! In the US 200 horse is quite adequite because most of the time you are cruzing at the same speed on motorways (or should i say high ways haha!) but in europe when u go around a corner and u come across a que of traffic doing 30mph and u see a gap ahead - its nice to have 400+ horsepower so u can nail it to get past them safely - and im not sayin u have to cross the speed limit (but you more than likely will if u have a v10 from that audi s6 encouraging you on to 155!!) Even though i got a spin in the new v10 m5 a few weeks ago i would still have the audi over the beamer and the benz. Because an m5 is REALLY EMBARESSING!!! And The mercedess will never be out of the garage - (mercs used to be about quality but now they have increased their profits hugly - although they have announced that they have corrected this...im just not sure!!)  Deefintly buy the audi...it has so much class, and beauty and you still wont look like a rich snob - instead a super cool sophisticated person with a nice audi!

I realize I'm coming in late to this thread, but I just purchased a 2008 Audi S6 after evaluating the Audi, the BMW M5, and the Mercedes Benz E63 AMG (and CLS AMG).

For me, the Audi offered the best value for the money -- if you can worry about value in this price range. While the MB CLS E63 AMG is a beautiful car, it was hard for me to justify the additional US$30,000 price tag when reliability data is poor and -- amazingly -- the dealer experience was also poor (high pressure sales tacticts).

I'm not a fan of the BMW looks, and I realize that is purely personal.

The Audi S6 offered for me the ideal car -- incredible power, all wheel drive (I live in a place with real winter), and exceptional comfort for four adults (plus my 13-year-old son).

With just about a week of driving so far, I am very happy with the car and can highly recommend it.

Though to be fair, each of these cars is excellent.

I'm just about to pull the trigger on buying a 2008 Audi A6 4.2 or a 2008 S6. I've driven them both and love the s6. The seats are perfect and the smooth immediate v10 power and of course the sound is great. But I'm thinking of going with the a6 4.2 and saving about $15K or $16K. So I'm wondering now that you  have owned a 2008 Audi S6 what do you think, would your daily driving experience be a lot different with the a6 4.2?
I agree with you that the s6 is understated and very classy auto. And the seats are to die for and yes the running lights are very cool. The carbon fiber bits are pretty hot to.

I have to laugh at all the moaning and groaning regarding the SMG. I'm begining to think that far too many skilled reviewers, just don't notice what they do with the gas pedal as they work the cluch in a manual. An SMG is not an automatic so there is some operator involvment reqired. Now if this darn key board was designed better I'm sure I could write just as gud az eny ov jor riterz.
