Which next-gen street-racer legend are you the most excited about, the M3, the Lancer Evo, or the Skyline GT-R?

If money was no object, the GT-R.  I hope they don't water it down for the US market.

I am also interested in what Subaru will do with the WRX STI to compete with the EVO X?

Yeah, nobody is talking about what the new STI will bring to the table.  It should be good!

The Skyling GT-R is more exciting for me.  When you think of the BMW M3, it looks too much like a luxury sedan car.  It doesnt give you the sports car look.  I am not sure how much the Skylines are going to be when they come out.  But the M3 will be apx $160,000 Australian and wow, a lot of money for a car that only looks luxury.  I think think the New Skyline coming out is in a different class than a BMW.  The specs on the BMW M3 are good, just doesnt do anything for me.  I have seen some pics and i like the 2004 model better.  New pics look deformed to me with the some of the body kits they have on.  Lancer Evo, well it looks like a chic car.  And even though I am a woman, I still want an awesome hot car... That doesnt look sissy.

the GT-R and next M3 will be very close in term of performance. the previous gen m3 and r34 skyline where almost identical around a track. neither is a full on sports car, they are both hiperformance GTs

I think im more excited about the gt-r. Mostly because ima Grand Turismo era person. I believe most of the hype is that were getting a car that was only available on a game and its finally going to be available here (not to many people though.) The same thing happened to the evo and the sti when they first came out. Most of the buzz about it is that it was an exotic car unavailable and soon will be.

Next would be the evo X because it will soon be one of the most powerful production cars per liter, more than 150! And it will be the most attainable road rockets of the 3 here. It also seats 4,... well to adults comfortably. About the sti, i just don't know but I'm just not as excited about it as the evo.

Last is the new m3. To me its less exciting because its just going into a different direction with the v8. Any small car with a v8 can be fast. that was what Carrol Shelby did, he put a huge 427(if i'm correct) into a small British sports car. it would have been better to see bmw take the I6 to a new level in my opinion. I'm not saying that this car is going to be bad, its actually going to be a monster!
But ist in a totally different class now with the v8

To conclude, all of these are going to be awesome cars, there is no doubt about it. But are these cars truely attainable for the 90-95% of us? I don't think so. The only one that comes close is the evo X and its probably going to go for about 30 large. The other 2 are going to be 70 or more. So theres really no point on all the hype and crap. Most of us are never going to drive these cars or even sit in one. Just my 2 cents on all that.

Good points, there.  Remember, though, BMW already took the inline-6 to a new level a few times.  First in the E46 M3 by making it rev to 8200rpm, and more recently in the 335i by putting 2 turbochargers on it.

You're right, anyone can put a V-8 in a small car... but it'll be interesting to see what it's like when BMW does it.

As much of a BMW fan as I am (and I'm a huge one) I'm probably more excited about the Skyline GT-R.  Just because it's about time we get one.

I understand what your saying and it alll makes sense. Yes those engines are  wonders, but what i meant was to do something a bit different than just stuff a v8. I am also a fan, maybe not as big a you, but the M3 are known for thier I6. I just thought they should stay in that direction and keep the tradition going. I ain't no product manager but this is what i would have done: Make the engine larger maybe 3.8-4.0 and maybe add a turbo or 2 if hp & tq were not on par with the competition. It may save some weight and would stick with the I6.

the decision to make the m3 a v8 was necessary to be able to compete performance wise at the price they want to sell the m3 at. the I6 was maxed out.

i think that it is a mistake to go bigger with the m3. it had its own little nitch carved out with the super smooth six and the m3 was always about much more than just horsepower.

unless of course bmw is making room for a performance 1 series coupe. drool...

Facts not fiction:

Do your research before purchasing the new GTR! I would highly advise anyone that is thinking about going to bed with the new Nissan GTR to be aware. Nissan has a history of putting out shaky sports cars.

I've owned about 8 of the various Z cars and all of them fell apart, practically my 1990, 1991, 1995, and the 1996 twin turbo version. The cars simply cannot hold up to the pounding.

You must be aware of is the constant maintenance of these cars. I had a lot cooling issues with the models above; my automatic transmission went out at 70,000 miles on the 1990 300ZX. Everyone that I knew that own these models experience the same issues.

At the same time I purchased a used 1995 BMW M3 with 29,000 miles. I drove the hell out this car. I went to the North Carolina and Virginia Beach about 10 times in this car, had a few races with it, and experience no problems. I traded it in on a 2000 BMW 540. Again drove the hell out of this car with no problems. I traded the 2000 540 in on a 2003 M3. Drove the heck out of this car, traded it in on an M5. Do I have to say it again?

I currently own a BMW X5 and a Mercedes E430. Folks, the new GTR might be fast as hell, but based on Nissan history, the new GTR won't hold up.

I am not out to hate Nissan, but these are facts.
