I just recieved the latest issue with this article inside. What a great article about two great cars. I appreciate the overall automotive perspective in this magazine, including the vintage spot in the back and the auction coverage. An article like this every month or more often anyway would really be cool. Anyway, I looked into finding a Benz briefly, as well as a Porsche 951, but couldn't find the right one of either during the time I wanted to spend. Either not enough car or too much money, the scales just never balanced out. Too bad, but I'm glad someone found what they wanted and I very much enjoyed reading about it. I just wish the article was longer.

Seriously. This was the best article I've seen in automobile in a while. My hopes were squashed when I got the issue and saw that it did not have the GTI on the cover, but this article helped make up for it.
Congrats to you folks for writing this.
Next issue - the 1992-1994 Audi S4 2.2T vs. the 1983-1986 Audi Ur-Quattro. Or a 930. Whichever you want.

Yeah, I agree above. I own a '95 Audi S6 sedan, and found that to be an excellent daily driver, however it lacks the true tossable sporting nature of the E30 M3 and 190E 2.3-16. But, you can definately feel the lineage from the ur-Quattro in it!
I loved your article on these two greats from the 80's. These are two cars that are "everyday supercars" IMHO!
I also have an E30 BMW (no, unfortunately not an M3) which I use for trackdays and the like. I have been thinking about getting a 190E 2.3-16 for a while. Thanks a lot... I think your article may have pushed me over the edge!!
I'll send you my first Benz dealer repair bill.
Great article. Would like to see more on older cars like the original GTI and these cars.... Cars the rest of us can afford!

Hey guys - I don't know how this thread slipped my attention for so long -- but THANK YOU! That article was a kind of first for us... Sam and I are trilled that, from the sounds of it, you guys enjoyed reading it as much as we enjoyed writing it.
The most fustrating part is that both his M3 and my 2.3-16 have been sitting warm and cozy in their respective garages since we wrote that article -- I cannot wait for all this snow and cold to go away so we can go out and hammer around with them.
Oh, and about that repair bill? Don't send it my way, I'll just pass out from the total at the bottom. Better yet, show up at our office and demand that Sam and I work on it with you. It'll be much cheaper for all of us.
Oh, and even though I had my 2.3-16 in the magazine, I also own an E30 (325iT, actually). So while fighting back and forth about which car was cooler, Sam quickly realized there's no need to convince me of what amazing cars the E30 is.
Even if, ultimately, my Mercedes is nicer than his E30.
Muhaha.
