I just finished a blog about VW's City Golf & Jetta.  What do you guys think?  Is this an automotive cheap-shot, or a legitimate business model?

What about the impact on resale values? Should people who bought Mk4s at full-price be pissed off? After all, these new cars have to be killing their resale values -- suddenly their $22k car is being sold for $15k.

And what would the world be like if you could buy a new Ferrari F360 with a warranty for $60k?  Hell, I'd buy one, yesterday's technology or not!

It's not my favorite idea.  I think in some ways it cheapens the company's image. However, it is a strong point that the cars in this case are decent in the first place. When automakers do this and the car isn't great to begin with (think Chevrolet Malibu Classic) it just further tarnishes their reputation.
