Jaguar has released a teaser image of a concept sedan to be shown at the Detroit show. Is it going to be a replacement for the XJ or the S-type? Do you think Jaguar will turn things around?

I think if Jaguar is going to use the same engines as before with a new exterior and interior design they should market the car at a price $20,000 dollars below their direct competitors because they've saved money without having to redesign their engines.

Imagine car shoppers saying "Well, for the price of a nice Toyota, I could buy a more prestigious Jaguar, I think I'll take a look at the Jaguar."  Instead of car buyers saying
"Well, for the price of Jaguar, I could get the real thing..a BMW, I think I'll go to the BMW dealership tommorrow."

Base new 2008 S-types selling for $37,000 is still quite alot of money but alot less than the most popular brands.  Therefore they will have created a new niche just by selling their cars for less.  More value for the money is unheard of in the luxury car segment..something Jaguar could aspire to in order to become a competitor in this fierce segment. That's how I think Jaguar could turn it around.

Hmm, Jaguar pricing their cars at $20k below their competitors?  Well, it sure would boost sales, but I think it'd also do irreparable damage to the brand.

Jaguar hasn't ever been about price, it's been about being among the most luxurious cars in the world.  Rather than see cost-cutting, I'd love to see Jaguar just make their cars worth their sticker prices.  And that means gorgeous, elegant styling, interiors that don't fall apart, and something resembling "reliability."

I would like to see Jaguar compete head-to-head too on all the same levels.

I'm just saying they could use a pricing (war) scheme to level the playing field since the players they're after are the most sought after and coveted car manufacturers.

In a somewhat similar instance; Hyundai has set lower price points to compete with the other
middle-of-the road brands and its working. They are selling in larger numbers today. Money can't buy you love but it'll sell a car quicker if you can afford it.
