Had my first chance to drive the new Nissan Altima hybrid last night. The obvious comparison is between it and the Camry hybrid because of the size and powertrain similarities. The only real differences between the two ares are their inherent ones, i.e. the Altima is more involving to begin with. MPGs are similar. A shame that the Altima will only be sold in eight states.

what is restricting the Altima's sale in all the states?

Nothing is stopping them, it's just that they know where the market is. They'll start in those states, and if it is a huge success, they'll spread it around. And if someone in another state wants one, they can find a way to get one. But those sales numbers are small enough that Nissan will focus their resources in the California emissions states, where these cars matter the most.

Ahhh. Well that makes sense. No use having an Altima hybrid sitting on some dealers lot in Montana or wherever for six months...
