We've heard word that the Mercedes-Benz B-class--an R-class-but-smaller type of hatch-wagon-thingy--is coming to America. Hatches like the Mini Cooper and Audi A3 work here, but those are cute and traditional, while the B-class looks like an expensive Scion xA or Smart ForFour. Will Americans buy it?

My gut instinct says no.  High gas prices aside, I still don't think Americans are falling in love with small hatchbacks.

The B-Class is on sale in Canada already, and while I think it makes a more compelling daily driver than the Smart, I don't see it selling a million units.

Then again, with all the Canadian federalization out of the way, I doubt Mercedes will have to invest too much to get it on sale in the US -- so any sales are gravy.
