The news bit came out today that Ford will delay dealership deliveries of the Edge and MKX due to some "hiccups" at the assembly plant. What are the hiccups? We don't know. But Ford has been touting these crossovers as the people-movers of the future, and it appears they are verynervous about making sure these things are just right.

a delay is better than a batch of recalls

i was reading that the delay is due to inconsistent quality in the parts coming into the assembly plant.  apparently they are having issues with the rear wheel bearings among other things.  truthfully, i can't understand why ford is bringing yet another suv to the marketplace, and beyond that, why they don't display this kind of care with their other models.  they should really focus on making great cars, instead of betting the farm on the truck and suv line.  old habits die hard i guess...

Well I think this move by Ford is a good thing as I'm assuming that the company is trying to repair its unfortunate lower quality image.  So good for them in deciding to get the MKX and Edge just right.

Nonetheless I honestly cannot decipher what the target market for the MKX is.  For the Edge, the market is easier to distinguish because of its competitive price.  But for a $34,000 Edge rabadged MKX with a bit of "bling," I think the major question should be something like this: "who'll buy this jellybean Lincoln (van) anyway?"

Rebates and incentives notwithstanding, I don't anticipate Ford regaining/capturing any major share of the crossover market with these automobiles.  Cynically, I'd go so far as to expect the MKX to be discontinued or rebadged within the next two years.
