Personally, I don't like any Mustangs made between 1971 and 2004. Most of them are ugly, and a lot of them are hardly driveable. There are much better choices out there.

I am personally a camaro or firebird guy myself, but i have driven a few svt's. I really cant complain much about them. I do agree, however, that unless your really bent on a mustang, there are better choices.

Fox body mustangs are pretty cheap and easy to work on. Parts are everywhere.

Used FR car?  Well, the best all-around choice has been the same for the last ten years - a BMW 3-series.  E36 models are downright cheap at this point, and have proven to be long-lasting and reliable (save for a few cooling system issues that should have been sorted long ago at this point).

I'd put my kid in a 3-series long before I'd subject him to an old SVT, but that's just my taste.

...excepting, of course, the Contour SVT.  But that's not RWD.

Just get a nissan 240 sx. its rwd, and it'll save you a bunch of money. 12000 for your kid, what the hell are you thinking?! if he gets a v8 stang he'll crash it in 3 months!!12 gs gone to waste Frown . There is a HUGE aftermarket for the 240, HHHUUUGGGEEE. and insurance won't be as high with the 240.

Hey! With the price of gas these days, buy a 10,000 dollar 2007 Hyundai Accent.  Brand new and sporty looking.  Spend 3000 dollars extra on a turbocharger and fat tires and the kidwill be totally thrilled. They'll even get a good warranty with cheap insurance since the car is basically an economy car.  If you get your son a car that's too fast he could kill himself and if the car he buys has too many problems, he'll never be able to afford repairs.
Good luck.

How old is your son?  I wouldn't want my 18 year old in a V8 Mustang...

240SX! Shocked (Insert laughter) Laugh  I would'nt subject my son to rice crap like that. I agree Fox body mustangs while not pretty are in the case of the 5.0 are reliable and easy to modify and work on.
