GM, Nissan, Renault Merger: Good thing?

It was recently claimed that two of every three Michigan residents think the GM/Nissan/Renault alliance (don't call it a merger yet) would do good things for the state. Do you think this is what GM needs to save itself, or will it end up kicking the company while it is down?
